Duties
- Install basic plumbing system fixtures and components by connecting them to existing water and drainage pipes based on instructions
- Replace broken, worn out, or defective pipes, traps, valves, and parts in water supply lines and waste drainage systems
- Measure, cut, and thread, replacement pipe segments to match old configurations when putting sections back together
- Read supervisor notes, building plans, and system charts to determine repair specifications and equipment needs
- Use appropriate hand tools and power tools to take apart pipes and fixtures and access components requiring replacement or maintenance
- Diagnose issues within plumbing systems by methodically inspecting associated fixtures, drainage lines, and pipes for breaks, leaks or blockages
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service
- Suitable for Federal employment
- Merit applicants must meet time-in-grade/band requirements, as applicable
- Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment medical examination)
- Bargaining Unit Position: Yes: Washington Area Metal Trades Council (WAMTC), AFL-CIO
- Must obtain and maintain Backflow Certification within first 6 months of employment
- Must obtain and maintain confined space training certification within first 6 months of employment
- Call back or emergency overtime required
Qualifications
There are no specific length or level of experience requirements. The applicant's overall background of experience, education and training must clearly demonstrate the ability to perform plumbing mechanic work, such as standard plumbing installations and repairs, without more than normal supervision.
Applicants must meet the screen out elements and achieve an overall score of at least fifty (50%) or higher
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.
