About the Position: Serves as Master Derrickboat Operator of the Heavy Lift Crane HENRY M. SHREVE, Regional Rivers Repair Fleet, Heavy Capacity Fleet. The SHREVE is a diesel powered, floating lattice boom, pedestal-mounted crane having a lift capacity of 550 tons, as such, the Master has overall responsibility of the operation and maintenance of the crane and barge systems.
Duties
Responsible for exercising knowledge of the capacity and physical limitations of the SHREVE in order to obtain the desired results and avoid injury to personnel, damaging the SHREVE, and damaging other plant.
Responsible for ensuring the work is performed in accordance with regulatory controls consisting of maritime laws and regulations, published plans and specifications, and various operating manuals published by equipment manufacturers.
Determine repairs to be performed during the lay-up season and directs and assists engineers and deck hands in performance of repairs.
Responsible for the safety of ground crews or other employees working in the area.
Conducts safety meetings and life saving drills for the adequate protection of all personnel on board.
Properly maintains marine safety equipment, e.g. fire protection, life saving and first-aid equipment, and instructs crew members in their use.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
- This position requires a pre-employment physical exam due to the physical requirement of the position.
- The incumbent must possess a valid state driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in accomplishment of assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Master Derrickboat without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Master, Derrickboat duties. I can and have operated land-based cranes or floating cranes in the maintenance of structures and have performed general lifting and duty cycle work. I have worked under the general direction of a crane or derrick boat master. I have been responsible for the inspection of cranes that I have operated. I have assisted with the preparation of critical lift plans, activity hazard analyses and completion of requisitions and periodic reports. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The incumbent is subject to dangers inherent to the execution of major maintenance and repair operations utilizing floating plant and the repair operations such as, but not limited to, drowning, capsizing, falling, and being struck by loads. There is a possibility of sustaining cuts and bruises in connection with work activities. Due to extremely high noise levels, the incumbent wears hearing protection. The incumbent works in confined and cramped conditions and spaces and is subject to dangers associated with welding, flame cutting, and general structural/mechanical maintenance and repairs. The incumbent works indoors and outdoors, subject to all types of weather.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs steps and ladders, reaches and bends to pull and push levers, and frequently performs lifting of up to 50 pounds.
