Duties

You will install, inspect, and perform modifications and repairs to electrical support systems, such as power plants and power distribution equipment. You will repair components such as generators, voltage regulators, governors, starter mowers, fuel pumps, fuel lines and oil pumps. You will perform preventative maintenance on electrical power support systems by checking equipment for fuel, lubricants, and coolant and battery water levels. You will maintain records and documentation by preparing records of action taken and assuring documentation is properly signed and coordinated.

  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance based on a T3 or T3R Personnel Security Investigation (PSI) in the performance of the duties of this position, every 10 years.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may be job sited. The employee may be required to report for work at a location other than a permanently assigned location.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform the work of a Powered Support Systems Mechanic without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by performing the following tasks: 1) Installing and repairing major components (e.g., engines, generators, alternators, gears, compressors, and hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical components) of powered support systems; 2) Using tools and equipment such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, pressure gages, leak detectors to test and repair equipment; and 3) Following work orders, standing operating procedures, and oral instructions to perform work on electric power distribution systems and/or powered support equipment.
