This position serves as an Animal Care Technician at the National Detector Dog Training Center (NDDTC) in Newnan, GA. If selected, you will perform a wide range of duties providing for the care, feeding, health, and general well-being of the dogs and maintaining the kennels.
Duties
The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity.
The duties may include, but are not limited to:
Feeds and waters canines
Observes animals daily for changes in appearance and/or activity.
Keeps track of canine health records, insuring vaccinations are kept up to date, and all medical issues are documented and treated.
Records changes such as signs of illness, disease, discontent, and general physical conditions
Reports any signs of illness, disease, injury, or unusual activity to canine instructors, animal caretaker supervisor or Director, NDDTC
Administers medication.
Bathes dogs and takes them to the veterinarian for routine visits as well as emergency visits.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Individuals who were born male after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

- Work may require contact with unpredictable or ill-natured dogs which exposes the incumbent to greater possibility of injury from trip hazards, bites, scratches, etc
- Will be required to work weekends and Holidays as part of the assigned work week and occasionally required to work overtime to provide support during training courses or in the event of an emergency
- Considerable physical exertion, strength, or ability to capture and restrain stronger or more active dogs is required. Pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying (up to 75 pounds) are required.
Qualifications
To qualify, you must show you have had training and experience of sufficient scope and quality to provide you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
