About the Position: The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is assigned to one of the Family Medicine Medical Home Port Teams at Naval Hospital Pensacola, Mon-Friday 0730-1630. This position may be utilized for coverage of any team assigned within Medical Home Port of Family Medicine. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation utilizing DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in DoD.

Duties

Provide patient care for their beneficiaries in their MHP team utilizing evidenced-based clinical practice guidelines and actively engages patients in their health care. Work collaboratively with their assigned provider, leveraging team-based care to realize efficiencies. Interviews patient who requests initial treatment or unscheduled examinations and obtains additional information from medical records regarding the type of medical problem and treatments received. Prepare patient electronic health record (EHR) and other appropriate forms prior to patient's appointment (i.e., school physical). Assist patients by directing or escorting them to other clinical services (laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, immunizations, etc.) as required. Schedule appointments through the Composite Health Care System (CHCS) computer system for eligible beneficiaries. Prepare, release and enter MHP provider schedules into CHCS.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 25 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a certification as a Certified Medical Assistant, within six months.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes one or more of the following: providing clerical support within a medical treatment facility (MTF) or clinic; scheduling medical appointments for patients; screening, triaging, and taking vital signs for assigned patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as, Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, Health Technician, Health Science, or Health Services. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Licensure/Certification: Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
