The position of Medical Support Assistant is located at the Fort Washakie Health Center, Fort Washakie, WY. This position reports to the Clinical Manager or designee.
Duties
Give instructions to patients and arrange appointments, updates and maintains schedule to maximize patient and provider.
Retrieve relevant patient data; ensures patient's medical records and laboratory reports are received from the appropriate outside facilities prior to patient's appointment.
Record data involving outpatient appointments, and information using the medical facilities automated and/or manual medical records system.
Types a variety of materials such as correspondence reports, technical documents and requisition forms.
Directs incoming, outgoing calls, questions, and messages to the appropriate personnel
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-4: 2 years above high school OR Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of general experience equivalent.
GS-5: 4 years above high school OR Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples of specialized experience: Interview and assist patients in completing new or updated forms to obtain registration information. Obtain and verify health records for eligibility information. Ensure required forms are complete and with signatures. Collect third party recipient health cards. Explain the program to the beneficiaries, i.e. why Medicare, Medicaid and/or private insurance will be billed for the services they received.
NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions for which both education and experience are acceptable.
General Experience (All positions except Reporting Stenographer, Shorthand Reporter, and Closed Micro-phone Reporter)--Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
Specialized Experience (All positions except Reporting Stenographer, Shorthand Reporter, and Closed Micro-phone Reporter)--Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.
Examples of specialized experience:
GS-5: collecting insurance information; maintaining referral logs on all referrals and reports; greeting patients on the telephone and in person, assessing the patient's need for routine, urgent or emergent care and taking appropriate action; maintaining record confidentially and safeguarding patient information; transcribing providers orders pertaining to laboratory and medical referrals.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
