This position is located at the Jesse Brown VA Hospital, Chicago, IL. (537)- a Level 1b Complexity VHA Facility and is organizationally aligned under Sterile Processing Services which oversees all SPS functions throughout the JBVA and CBOCs.

Duties

As a regular and recurring part of the assignment, the Incumbent is responsible for overall supervision and coordinates all activities for the decontamination, processing, and packaging of surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile reusable supplies for use in clinics, wards, operating rooms, and special diagnostic areas of the health care facility. Serves as liaison between clinical staff, operating room personnel instructs employees on specific tasks and gives on-the-job training in accordance with established procedures and policies. Supervises Lead Medical Supply Technicians and Medical Supply Technicians and solves problems related to work and personnel that cover two shifts and on call off tours hours respectively. Settles minor disputes if any arise among employees and strives to maintain high morale within the Unit. Assures work requirements and unusual requests are met. Expects high productivity and accurate results in the decontamination and preparation of RME, OR instruments, sets, scopes, drills, etc.; maintains high quality and safety standards. The incumbent also personally performs SPS work as required for coverage in the absence of the lead technicians including but not limited to: preparation and packaging area assembles procedure trays for all cases in the operating rooms, prepares, and packages instruments and supplies for the ICU, GI, GU and other patient care areas as well as for the CBOC's of the facility. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. MSTs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j, this part. Grade Determinations: (a) Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. (b) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: 1. Ability to manage, interact and deal with individuals of varying backgrounds. 2. Ability to direct staff and manage tasks to be completed. 3. Ability to oversee and supervise all aspects of decontamination, preparation, sterilization, monitoring, and distribution of RME. 4. Ability to perform a full range of supervisory duties, including assigning, planning and evaluating work, recommending awards, approving leave, identifying training needs, and resolving staff issues.
