THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION OPEN TO AREA OF CONSIDERATION (AOC): This National Guard position is for an ELECTRONICS INTEGRATED SYSTEMS MECHANIC, Position Description Number D2324000 and is part of the 169 MXS/MXMVE, South Carolina Air National Guard.

Duties

This position is located in either the Avionics Intermediate Shop (AIS), Improved Avionics Intermediate Shop (IAIS) or ECM Pod Shop, Component Repair Branch, of an Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. This is an Air National Guard (ANG) Dual Status Technician position requiring military membership, compatible military skill assignment, and classification. Its purpose is to inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair and modify software controlled automated and manually controlled test stations, ECM Pods, peripherals, support equipment and associated subsystems. The stations are used to repair and maintain all avionics line-replaceable units (LRUs) and Pods.

Requirements

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.

  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

  • As a condition of continued dual status technician employment, the employee must maintain local network access IAW AFMANs 33-152, User Responsibilities and Guidance for Information Systems and 33-282, Computer Security.
  • As a condition of continued dual status technician employment, the employee requires routine access to classified Secret material or similar environment.

Qualifications

Open to Area 3 Only. Area 1: Current Permanent On-Board dual status technicians employed with the SC Air National Guard. (Does not include temporary and Indefinite technicians). Area 2: Current military members of the SC Air National Guard. Area 3: Current nationwide Air National Guard military members, AF Reserve military members, and RegAF. (Must be willing to transfer to the SC Air National Guard). Area 4: US citizens eligible for immediate membership in the SC Air National Guard. Min/Max Military Grades: SrA/E4, SSgt/E5/ TSgt/E6/ MSgt/E7 Compatible Military Assignments: 2A071, 2A271, 2A272, 2A273, 2A374, 2A375, 2A390, 2A590, 2A871, 2A872, 2A971, 2A972, 2A973, 2A090 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have a validated understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the occupational series and grade. Skilled in collecting and analyzing data effectively, efficiently, and accurately. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Skilled in duties such as, install, modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, align, calibrate, and rebuild multi-system avionics complexes. Ability to format and write English in reports and presentation formats. Skilled in presenting formal training presentations and briefings. Skilled in applying procedures and directives by reading and interpreting material. Skilled in training, mentoring, leading, and problem-solving. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: TO BE RATED QUALIFIED FOR THIS POSITION YOUR RESUME MUST DEFINITIVELY SHOW at least 36 months of specialized working experiences in performing, training and/or supervising assigned integrated systems repair and maintenance work operations. Must have working and training experiences in the maintenance, repair, and modification of integrated multi-complex avionics systems. Skilled in planning tasks for subordinate workers and expanded knowledge in using the equipment, facilities and materials. Skilled in meeting deadlines, in using time management to satisfy priorities and work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by higher level supervisors. Experiences included redirecting individual workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work. Skilled in articulating work requirements to higher level supervisors and experienced in planning current and future work schedules, budget requests, staffing needs, estimates, and recommending projected work. Competent in researching and addressing work related problems such as, excessive costs or low productivity; and, determining the relevant causes. Experiences included implementing corrective actions, within authority, to resolve work problems. Must have the skill and knowledge to plan work and manage leave schedules. Capabilities included the ability to determine the types and levels of training needs, along with providing mentorship and guidance to subordinates for their professional skill and knowledge improvements. Experienced in writing performance standards and provided subordinates with formal appraisals of their work performance. Experiences involved advising and counseling workers on how to improve their performance through explanations and demonstrations of work techniques. Work efforts included initiating recommendations for promotion or reassignment of subordinates to senior supervisors. Competent in reviewing job descriptions for accuracy and clarity. Knowledgeable in the correct methods used to investigate, analyze, and resolve grievances and complaints. Experiences involved providing recommendations for disciplinary actions. Skilled in applying interview techniques and understanding of body language patterns. Experiences included interviewing candidates for vacancies and recommending selections to higher level supervisors. Skilled in conducting environmental safety requirements and identifying equipment handling concerns that resulted in observed safety and housekeeping practices. Experiences included compliance with wearing the appropriate safety equipment and following pertinent safety precautions. Skilled and knowledgeable of management objectives and programs, that included addressing labor-management relations, Equal Employment Opportunity, internal controls, safety, energy conservation, environmental controls, and property accountability. Skilled in writing and presenting work reports and maintaining accurate records. Experienced in participating in readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. Experiences may have included work that involved accident/mishap responses, shift supervision, special project management, heavy equipment operations, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or served as a team member that responded to natural disasters or civil emergencies. MILITARY QUALIFICATIONS: An applicant must qualify for awarding of the established compatible military occupational skill that includes military rank restrictions, education requirements, physical and medical requirements, work capabilities, and military unit of assignment. Upon selection, a candidate is assigned to the position's compatible unit and military skill in accordance with the Air Force Enlisted Classification Directive, Air National Guard statutes, and National Guard Bureau regulations. For continued ANG Technician employment in any FWS Series 2610 position, the selected dual status technician candidate must obtain and maintain all compatible service specific military skill requirements in certifications, training, and education, and security clearances. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: To initially qualify and prior to appointment, an applicant's military medical record must indicate a completed and current medical physical, medical profile, a cleared drug test; and, normal color vision as defined in AFI 48-123, Medical Examinations and Standards. To initially qualify and as a condition of continued dual status technician employment, must have the capability to lift, carry, push, or otherwise handle items weighing up to 70 pounds. To initially qualify and as a condition of continued dual status technician employment, must have the physical capability to stand, climb, walk, bend, crouch, reach, and stoop over extended periods of time. To initially qualify and as a condition of continued dual status technician employment, must possess a valid state driver's license to operate government motor vehicles, for the state in which he or she lives or is principally employed, in accordance with Air Force and Air National Guard Vehicle Operations Directives. As a condition of continued dual status technician employment, the employee must complete the hazmat certification within six months of employment and complete hazmat recertification every two years. As a condition of continued dual status technician employment, the employee must maintain the position's mandatory AFSC skill level and continue on-the-job proficiency requirements.

Education

To qualify, an enlisted applicant for hire consideration into an ANG Dual Status Technician FWS 2610 position, award of the compatible PAFSC, Craftsman Seven Skill Level with the position's compatible unit position assignment and a high school diploma, are mandatory requirements. Completion of high school courses in physics, algebra, trigonometry, and computer principles is desirable. Higher academic college courses and degrees that are aligned within the FWS Series 2610 type of work tasks are also desirable.
