This position is Located within Commander, Navy Installation Command, Mid-Atlantic Region, Fleet and Family Readiness Program. The purpose of this position is to plan, organize, guide, and supervise all operations necessary for the efficient maintenance of the courses and all attendant programs and facilities. The golf course, practice area and clubhouse operate daily throughout the year.
Duties
Develops and maintains ways and means of maximizing patron interest and utilization of all golf program areas. Supervises the utilization and maintenance of pull and power carts. Supervises and provides guidance to ensure efficient operation of the golf course pro shop to include selecting, pricing and proper display of resale merchandise. Evaluates and recommends methods to improve resale activities. Assists patrons in the selection of equipment and related items. Ensures all transactions are performed according to requirements for the security of funds and equipment.
Manages individual and group lessons and clinics. Ensures patrons receive proper training on the proper usage of all types of golf equipment. ensures proper fittings and repair of golf clubs for patrons.
Provides rigid supervision of course play. Plans, promotes and oversees golf tournaments, leagues and special events. Coordinates events and support from MWR and/or external sources.
Prepares annual operating budgets. Orders supplies, materials and resale stock. Contacts firms to obtain competitive prices regarding purchase of equipment, supply accessories, etc.
Provides input on course design, usage, services, programs, problems, and policy. Collates information and coordinates presentations for higher authority.
Develops and fully implements all safety and occupational health, fire prevention, environmental and industrial hygiene requirements. Ensures employees are furnished with appropriate personal protective equipment and are instructed on proper use. Investigates mishaps and accurately prepares accident and mishap reports. Inspects facilities and buildings on a continual basis noting safety deficiencies and initiating prompt corrective action within the limits of authority.
Supervises, directs and trains subordinate supervisors and employees. Assigns work, approves/disapproves leave, evaluates performance and makes recommendations for awards and/or corrective or disciplinary actions as indicated. Ensures timekeeping documents are submitted in accordance with local direction. Manages the new hire selection process.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must pass all applicable records and background check.
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license at all times.
- Position has been designated Non-Critical sensitive. As a position of trust and ITII position, employment is conditional on the successful competition of an Access National Agency Check (ANACI). Position requires eligibility for a secret clearance.

A qualified candidate possess the following:
A minimum of 4 years of documented professional experience in all aspects of golf course operation, design and maintenance.
A minimum of 3 years supervisory experience.
Membership in the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) is strongly preferred. Candidate must be able to attain Class A PGA status within one year of employment.
Must be skilled in the current techniques of operating a financial establishment including some experience with point-of-sale cash register, basic computer knowledge and basic accounting and budgeting functions.
Must be experienced in providing exceptional customer service to all eligible budgeting functions.
Must be experienced in providing exceptional customer service to all eligible patrons.
Must have the ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Working knowledge of all aspects of a golf operation including, but not limited to retail sales and front desk operation, fitting of golf equipment, driving range operation and maintenance and supervision of a gasoline or electric golf car fleet. Must be knowledgeable of pertinent safety, occupational health and environmental regulations relating to chemicals, sprays and other agents used in a golf course environment.
Must have the ability to plan schedule and supervise work to achieve the most efficient utilization of facilities, employees and equipment.
Knowledge of agency management procedures and general business practices related to the management and utilization of golf course and related facilities.
