As a Quality Assurance Specialist at the Center for Veterinary Biologics, you will be responsible for coordination and/or performance of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 Internal Audits, Vendor Audits, and any audits requested by Center for Veterinary Biologics management.
Duties
The duties may include, but are not limited to:
Applies, documents, and interprets quality management and quality assurance guidelines and procedures.
Scheduling, management, coordination, and follow-up to the 3rd party certification audit of the ISO 9001 Standard.
Liaison to the Quality Coordinator, National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) concerning issues of quality assurance for the Veterinary Services (VS), Ames Campus.
Participates with Director and Assistant Director in the determination of needs and ways to accomplish short and long-range goals and objectives.
Oversees activities and provides advice on quality management and quality assurance concerning the biologics and diagnostics programs.
Reviews and provides comments on new/revised rules, regulations, standard requirements, general licensing consideration, and procedures governing veterinary biologics quality management and assurance.
Plans, organizes, and participates in the execution of national programs to establish quality management/assurance standards used to evaluate all veterinary biologics pre- and post-release.
Oversees the development of a CVB training program where work-shops, training courses, seminars, and on-the-job training curricula are recommended.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.

- Most of the work is performed in an office while seated. There is some walking, standing, and bending required. Must occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
- Occasionally visits laboratories where there may be unexpected hazards which require special safety precautions including protective clothing.
- Immunization with Food and Drug Administration approved vaccines may be required to enter laboratories conducting work with human pathogens (class 3 agents).
- Restrictions against contact with birds and livestock outside the laboratory will apply for a period of seven days after entering high security laboratories that are working with disease agents exotic to the United States.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
TIME-IN-GRADE: Current federal employees applying for a promotion opportunity must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirement of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
FOR THE GS-09 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-07 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates:
Conducting root cause analysis and implementing an effective solution based on audit findings.
Conducting administrative or laboratory process audits independently or as a Team Lead.
Interpreting and implementing regulatory requirements or quality standards.
OR master's or equivalent graduate degree with a major study in quality assurance, statistics, mathematics, production management, industrial management, computer science, engineering, engineering technology, physical sciences, textiles, or other fields related to the position.
OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for this grade level.

This education must have been successfully completed and obtained from an accredited school, college, or university
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-09 GRADE LEVEL: Applicants may have combinations of successfully completed education and specialized experience to meet total qualification requirements. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for that grade level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
