About the Position: This position serves as a Small Arms Tools, Equipment & Parts Attendant maintaining accountability and serviceability for small arms weapons, NBC masks, night vision devices and other highly sensitive items.

Duties

Maintains accountability and serviceability for small arms weapons, NBC masks, night vision devices and other high sensitive items. Conduct inventories of all equipment in accordance with local policy and Physical Security Regulations. Determines if there are any deficiencies, or requirements for any special tools, and recommends any action necessary. Provides hands-on and classroom instruction, advice, guidance, and assistance on the use and maintenance of assigned equipment, general and specialized tools, test measurement and diagnostic equipment, repair parts, kits, and modifications, etc. Conducts training in the proper operations, care and maintenance of equipment, condition classification, and instructs how to read and use equipment manuals. Ensures authorized repair parts are on-hand or on-order; tracks parts on-order by the document number registry. Maintains all facets of repair parts, supply operations, to include Prescribed Load List (PLL), ASL, shop stock, direct exchange, and controlled substitution. Authorizations, requirements, current changes and procedures for obtaining and using all authorized supply and maintenance publications. Maintains organization and cleanliness of Arms Room facilities. Prepares/submits reports directly to the unit commander or team leader of problems requiring corrective action and any recommendations, as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • Criminal history background check required.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Small Arms Tools, Equipment & Parts Attendant~ without more than normal supervision. I can determine, identify, and select tools and parts described by users for intended use; determine methods and techniques for setting up and shifting storage locations and determine when tools and equipment should be routed to appropriate shops for possible repairs. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading)Dexterity and SafetyKnowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic)Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) PHYSICAL EFFORT Work involves lifting subassemblies or small weapons weighing 15 to 20 pounds, and often carrying large assemblies or weapons weighing up to 50 pounds. Work requires walking, bending, and long periods of standing. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed for a preponderance of time in well-lighted and ventilated shops with occasional trips to firing ranges; shop floors are usually of cement construction. Exposure to excessive noise from test firing weapons; Possible injury due to handling tools and weapons; contact with dirt, grease, dust, and fumes; and more serious injury when unloading jammed or misfired weapons, ricochet bullets, and acids. Exposed to hazardous noise level. Wears hearing protective devices during noise hazardous operations. Receives routine periodic hearing evaluation at installation medical facility. Flexible work schedule may be required, including some Saturdays. Normal schedule of 0745-1645.
