Duties
You will provide a range of intellectual property services, including drafting and prosecuting patent applications, reviewing research publications for potentially patentable material, and providing litigation support for patent infringement claims.
You will provide occasional trademark-related consultation, and counseling on contract and technology transfer intellectual property matters such as rights in inventions, patents, technical data, and computer software.
You will be responsible for assisting the counsel in rendering legal advice and assistance to the Commander and his/her staff and ensure the advice and service is informative, promptly rendered, effectively conveyed, and responsive to client needs.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
Qualifications
Applicants must have graduated from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, be a licensed patent attorney registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, be an active member in good standing of the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. Commonwealth, U.S. Territory, or the District of Columbia; and be admitted to practice before a state or federal court. U.S. Citizenship is a requirement of the position (affirmatively indicate citizenship in your application materials).
This vacancy will be filled under the Science and Technology Reinvention Laboratory (STRL) personnel demonstration system, which is a pay for performance system using pay bands with salary ranges. This position will be filled in the Business and Program Management Pay Band DA-03/04/05/06 (comparable to GS-09/11/12/13/14/15). This position has a full potential level of DA-06 (GS-15 equivalent). Pay will be set commensurate with the successful applicant's qualifications, funding availability, and STRL pay setting guidelines.
To be eligible for selection at the DA-03 (GS-09/10 equivalent level): the applicant must have at least one year of professional legal experience, or be a recent law school graduate with superior law student work or activities as demonstrated by: graduating in the top third of their law school class; work or achievement of significance on an official law review or journal; or a special high-level honor, e.g., winning a moot court competition, membership on the law school's official moot court team, or membership in the Order of the Coif.
To be eligible for selection at the DA-04 (GS-11/12 equivalent level): the applicant must have two years of relevant professional legal experience at the GS-11 (or equivalent) level or be a current GS-12 (or equivalent) attorney within the Federal government. Note that for DA-03 (GS-11 equivalent) and DA-04 (GS-12 equivalent) positions only, a second professional law degree (LL.M.) that required at least one full academic year of graduate study may be substituted for one year of professional legal experience.
To be eligible for selection at the DA-05 (GS-12/13 equivalent level): the applicant must have in excess of two years of successful professional legal experience.
To be eligible for selection at the DA-06 (GS-14/15 equivalent level): the applicant must have at least three-and-one-half years of successful professional legal experience.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
Education
Requirements for the position include a Bachelor of Science or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, or other education and work experience clearly demonstrating an ability to perform the duties of the position, and particularly as those duties relate to Radio Frequency (RF) communication systems, signal processing, mechanical, and electromechanical technologies. Experience in software patent application preparation and prosecution of RF communication systems technology, signal processing, and software is highly desired.
