The Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMDB) Training Instructor will work alongside the PMDB Coordinator and will have reporting responsibilities to the facility's Workplace Violence Prevention Program Coordinator. They will be responsible for facilitating educational Training programs to enhance existing skills and promote growth of employees. They will also provide counseling and resources to those individuals who are interested in self-development.

Duties

The incumbent is responsible for a wide variety of activities related to the PMDB program including supporting the implementation of the annual PMDB training plan for the Atlanta VA HCS, serving as the primary instructor for all staff for PMDB Part 1, 2, and 3. The PMDB Instructor must and maintain PMDB Certified Trainer status. The incumbent will be supported in pursuing Master Trainer status. Travel will be required to attend the mandatory PMDB conferences and obtain Master Trainer status through travel to other VHA facilities to teach PMDB.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/04/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. For a GS-9 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-7. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. Individual Occupational Requirement: You must meet the following Individual Occupational Requirement: Education: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. ~OR~ Experience: Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s). Supervising or administering a training program. Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis In addition to meeting the Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) as listed above, you may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: GS-7 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: develop training module(s) for new and existing employees; develop and evaluates courses; uses judgment to adapt and interpret guidelines to apply to specific cases or problems; meet the needs of all customers while consistently communicating with both internal and external customers, and providing consistent information according to established policies and procedures; follow guidelines of a variety of instructions, technical manuals, medical facility regulations, regulatory requirements, and established procedure. ~OR~ Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have completed at least 1 full year of graduate level education. ~OR~superior academic achievement, ~OR~ Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond post high-school. GS-9 Specialist Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-7 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work regularly requires periods of standing, walking, bending, stretching, and holding, and other similar activities that would be involved when teaching, modeling, or performing techniques to safely respond to physically disruptive behavior or contain a person in a behavioral crisis. The work will require regularly and repetitively carrying heavy objects of 50 pounds or less. There will also be some sedentary work. Work Environment: Work is typically performed in adequately lighted and climate controlled office classrooms and an office. Will require occasional travel local travel to VAHCS CBOC's and occasional travel to other VHA facilities for PMDB trainings or conferences.
