The Supervisory Social Worker will be apart of the Clinical Deployment Team (CDT) and is responsible for the supervision and professional development of the Ambulatory Social Work Team assigned to the Patient Aligned Care Teams, Specialty Clinics, Urgent Rooms, and Pain Clinic. The Social Worker is responsible for the management and functioning of the Ambulatory teams encompassing 6-8 direct reports and provides support to team members supervising Masters level Social Work Interns.

VA Careers - Social Work: https://youtube.com/embed/enRhz_ua_UU Major Duties: The Supervisory Social Worker will be a team member of the Clinical Deployment Team (CDT) which requires readiness for deployment to the community of Veteran healthcare and support to communities in time of crisis. Monitors the efficiency, effectiveness, timeliness, and quality of services offered within the Ambulatory Care programs. The incumbent reviews relevant data, asses the data, and uses the data to improve program processes and performance. Responsible for establishing priorities and accomplishment of programmatic goals in coordination with the Medical Care Management Program Manager. Works closely with their Medical Care Management Program Manager to address issues, implement changes and manage the daily operations of Ambulatory programs. The incumbent has both the administrative and clinical supervision responsibilities for the day-to-day performance and conduct of the professional staff assigned to them. The incumbent monitors the work performed by assigned providers and prepares mid-term and annual performance appraisals. Provides consultation and technical assistance and mentoring to a group of employees performing work at various GS levels, particularly those at the entry-level. The incumbent is viewed as the senior clinician with advanced practice skills and expertise. Ensures adequate coverage for the Ambulatory Care programs and has full authority to deploy assigned staff to ensure adequate coverage during absences. Provides training to students, residents, interns and fellows from other disciplines, instructing on psychosocial treatment. Organizes and conducts formal workshops and classes for staff. Supervisory Social Worker is able to deploy, within the team's scheduled deployment windows, to any event within 72 hours of notification with the ability to work seamlessly with receiving facility or agencies. Maintain readiness for an identified minimum of 2 rotational windows of expected deployable status per calendar year, for up to a month at a time. Complete mandatory CDT training courses prior to being deployed. Demonstrate readiness to apply professional skills to a range of emergency situations during regular training and simulations. Participate in CDT specific training activities (e.g., conferences, exercises, simulations, specific competencies, certifications). Meets with Veteran to assess accomplishments and re-establish goals. Monitors Veteran's progress, maintains comprehensive documentation, ensures expert diagnosis and treatment of clinical disorders, and shows competent discretion in decision to adjust treatment. Supervisory Social Worker explains Veteran's treatment and progress to third parties as appropriate. Manages the quality control and evaluation of the professional services provided. Devises methods of obtaining data and evaluates data to determine the effectiveness of treatment. Identifies consistent qualities of successful treatment and of failed treatment. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found by going to http://vaww.va.gov/OHRM/T38Hybrid/. Loss of Licensure or Certification. Once licensed or certified, social workers must maintain a full, valid, and unrestricted independent license or certification to remain qualified for employment. Loss of licensure or certification will result in removal from the GS-0185 social worker series and may result in termination of employment. English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Creditable Experience. The candidate must have knowledge of current professional social work practices. To be creditable, the experience must have required the use of knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics associated with current professional social work practice. The experience or education must be post-Masters of Social Work (MSW) degree. Experience and education satisfying this requirement must be active professional practice, which is paid/non-paid employment as a professional social worker, as defined by the appropriate state licensing board. Quality of Experience. Experience is only creditable if it is obtained following graduation with a master's degree in social work and if it includes work as a professional social worker directly related to the position to be filled. Qualifying experience must also be at a level comparable to social work experience at the next lower level. Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates. Supervisory Social Worker, GS-12 Education and Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. (b) Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. (c) Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services. (d) Ability to provide staff training and development. (e) Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers. Assignment. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and variety and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. At the GS-12 grade level, supervisory social workers typically have significant personnel management responsibilities for a small to moderate sized professional and non-professional staff, including support staff and professional staff at the GS-12 grade level and below. The supervisory social worker is responsible for the professional and administrative management of an area in a social work service, in a care/product line, or multiple facilities. They provide direct clinical services with or without program coordination responsibilities.
