The primary purpose of this position is to serve a Nurse in the ambulatory care department under the Mid Atlantic Service Unit in Richmond, Virginia. This position is under the Nashville Area Indian Health Service, Mid Atlantic Service Unit.
Duties
Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care.
Assess, plans, implements and evaluates care based on age-specific components.
Assume responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of patient care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction.
Administer medications and treatment procedures per established policies and guidelines.
Consider all characteristics of the individual, including sex and sex role identification, age and life stage, state of health, race and culture, socio-economic status, values and previous experience with similar events, in order to assist each patient to identify and meet basic health needs and improve his/her health status to the individual's maximum.
Influence outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Core elements of performance includes knowledge and active participation in unit / program level quality improvement processes, initiatives, and customer service.
Take initiative in developing and evaluating unit level and/or disease specific to standards of care, policies, procedures and nursing programs that guide nursing practice and/or measure performance.
Complete all required education in prescribed timelines, including Talent Management, recertification and continuing education.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-09 Grade Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples Include: Assess the patient care needs; adjusts staff and collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Supervisor as necessary. Develop a plan of care for individual patients utilizing nursing diagnosis. Consult with primary care providers and other healthcare professionals on patients to coordinate diagnostic and therapeutic regimens for patients. Provide orientation to new employees. Participate and contribute to clinic Performance Improvement activities. Documents observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures administered and patient response to treatment or nursing care. Evaluate professional growth and activities implemented to improve Nursing Services.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
