This National Guard position is for a ELECTRONIC INTEGRATED SYSTEMS MECHANIC (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D2324000 and is part of the Oregon National Guard 173rd Fighter Wing, National Guard.

Duties

As a ELECTRONIC INTEGRATED SYSTEMS MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-2610-12/13, this position is located in either the Avionics Intermediate Shop (AIS), Improved Avionics Intermediate Shop (IAIS) or ECM Pod Shop, Component Repair Branch, of an Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. This is an Air National Guard (ANG) Dual Status Technician position requiring military membership, compatible military skill assignment, and classification. Its purpose is to inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair and modify software controlled automated and manually controlled test stations, ECM Pods, peripherals, support equipment and associated subsystems. The stations are used to repair and maintain all avionics line-replaceable units (LRUs) and Pods. 1. On a day-to-day basis, analyzes performance, tests, inspects, troubleshoots, identifies and isolates malfunctions, disassembles, modifies or repairs and reassembles test stations or ECM Pods and their associated peripherals. Considers the complex interrelated variables arising from a mix of computer hardware and software, stimulus and measurement systems, and special purpose test subsystems. Analyzes malfunctions using schematics, logic and wiring diagrams, programming tables, computer program flow charts, software user guides, computer program listings and factory drawings. Diagnoses circuit operating characteristics using computer query, system peculiar test equipment, and computer diagnostics. Isolates problems to the failing part using self-test diagnostics, oscilloscopes, frequency meters, signal generators, digital, and differential voltmeters, computer registers and printouts and other special and standard tools and test equipment. Removes and replaces components, assemblies, subassemblies, or parts using special and common hand tools, soldering devices and special electronic instruments. (20%) 2. May modify and updates avionics Pods, support equipment and support software according to applicable technical publications. Analyzes program data and determines if the criteria is sufficient to provide adequate testing and troubleshooting. Examines recurring malfunctions and software deficiencies to determine testing voids and initiates corrective action by submission of quality deficiency reports, software deficiency reports or proposed modifications. Devises repair procedures based on findings and recommends program changes, procedural changes, or data corrections to correct software deficiencies. Recommends revisions to intermediate maintenance directives. (20%) 3. Connects associated testing equipment to interface the test station system to the aircraft system and or Pod to facilitate maintenance/repair of POD or line replaceable units (LRUs) from the avionics systems such as radar, fire control, instrument, flight control, inertial navigation, malfunction analysis and recording equipment systems. Determines whether failures are caused by the unit under test (UUT), the Pod, the test station, or the test program. If the malfunction is found to be in the UUT, Pod or the test station, isolates it to the specific component(s), disassembles and effects repair by replacing solid state devices, micro miniature modules, gyros, sensors, transducers, and any other required parts, and assembles after repair is accomplished and performs operational tests. If the malfunction is in the test program, informs engineers and/or Air Force Logistics Command (AFLC) of the problem and serves as subject matter expert in providing practical technical assistance in resolution. Ensures compatibility of items with each other and with extenders and interfaces. (20%) 4. Works with engineers and technicians in the development and/or modification of software, interfaces, extender equipment or additional items of test equipment and in validation of technical data concerning the repair, maintenance, and test of the test station and units under test. Initiates technical data changes. (20%) 5. Provides hands-on training instructions to lower grade personnel concerned with repair of computer controlled automatic test equipment, manually controlled test equipment, line replaceable units and aircraft integrated systems. Also provides on-the-job instruction to newly assigned personnel, regardless of grade level. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as Operational Readiness Inspections (ORI), Inspector General (IG) inspections, and Unit Effectiveness Inspections and mobility and command support exercises. (20%) 6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Areas of Consideration: Area 1 - Current permanent and indefinite T32 technicians of the Oregon ANG. Area 2 - Current permanent and indefinite T5 employees of the Oregon ANG. Area 3 - Current service members in the Oregon ANG. Area 4 - Individuals in the active duty US Air Force, Air Force Reserve, or Air National Guard. Area 5 - US Citizens eligible to meet the military requirements for membership in the Oregon ANG. GENERAL and SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: An applicant must have a validated understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the occupational series and grade. WG-12 (Flight-Line) This position is an apprentice or journeyman skill level designed as a developmental opportunity to qualify for merit promotion to the dual status technician PD# D2240P01, Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic, WG-2610-13, craftsman expertise. Must have at least a three-skill level in one of the compatible AFSCs, with 12 months of work experiences, that involved installing, modifying, overhauling, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, aligning, calibrating, and rebuilding multi-system avionics complexes consisting of multiple completely integrated electronic avionics systems where the complex accomplishes a number of major functions. Skilled in performing on-or-off equipment maintenance on one or more complete electronic integrated systems associated with the assigned aircraft and/or maintenance on automatic flight control systems, instrument systems, inertial or radar navigation systems. Experiences included performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on one or more multi-complex electronic integrated systems. Skilled in conducting operational checks, inspections, tests, trouble shooting, removal and replacement of line replaceable units. Capable of isolating unusual malfunctions by using technical orders, schematics, wiring diagrams, tools, and test equipment to include automatic test equipment and flight line test systems. Experiences involved solving complex problems by analyzing installation, circuitry, and operating characteristics of the systems. Skilled in adjusting and aligning system sensors, transmitters, amplifiers, power supplies, display devices, controls, transponders, actuators, servos, computers and other related components. Capable of installing serviceable components into aircraft and performed total systems alignment and harmonization in accordance with existing technical orders and directives. Skilled in technical order FWS compliance factors, modification of components/systems, and completed thorough system checks for proper operations. Experienced in maintaining, modifying, calibrating and inspecting a wide variety of user tests, measurements, and diagnostic equipment. Skilled craft for installing, modifying, overhauling, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, aligning, and calibrating complete electronic avionics multi-systems controls. Must have a working knowledge of complex aircraft avionics; and/or electronic circuit maintenance systems such as, the electronics package used in an automated aircraft. Skilled in operating integrated flight and integrated counter-measures system, electronic multiplex communications bus, inertial navigation system, multi-function displays, heads-up display, data transfer equipment, global positioning system, situation awareness datalink, data modem, flight control system, pitot-static system and related instrumentation. WG-13 (Flight-Line) The applicant must have at least 12 months of specialized experiences working as an Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic, WG-2610-12, and must possess the craftsman level (7-Level) of knowledge and skills to install, modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, align, calibrate, and rebuild multi-system avionics complexes consisting of multiple completely integrated electronic avionics systems where the complex accomplishes a number of major functions. Experiences included the ability and skills to perform on-or off-equipment maintenance on one or more complete electronic integrated systems associated with the assigned aircraft and/or maintenance on systems such as, automatic flight control systems, instrument systems, inertial and radar navigation systems. Experienced in performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on one or more multi-complex electronic integrated systems. Experiences included completing operational checks, inspections, tests, trouble shooting, removal and replacement of line-replaceable-units which are linked with integrated systems and line-replaceable-units which are independent or associated with nonintegrated systems. Must have skilled capabilities of isolating unusual malfunctions using technical orders, schematics, wiring diagrams, tools, and test equipment including automatic test equipment and flight line test systems. Skilled in solving complex problems by analyzing installation, circuitry, and operating characteristics of the systems. Experiences involved adjusting and aligning system sensors, transmitters, amplifiers, power supplies, display devices, controls, transponders, actuators, servos, computers and other related components. Skilled in the installation of serviceable components into aircraft and performed total systems alignment and harmonization in accordance with existing technical orders and directives. Experienced and skilled in completing technical order compliances, completing component and system modifications, and performing thorough system checks for correct operations. Skilled in maintaining, modifying, calibrating, and inspecting a wide variety of user test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment. Experienced in performing installations, modifications, overhauling, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, aligning, and calibrating complete electronic avionics multi-system controls. Must have a thorough working knowledge of complex aircraft avionics or electronic circuit maintenance systems such as, the electronics package in highly automated aircraft where the integrated flight and integrated countermeasures system, electronic multiplex communications bus, inertial navigation system, multi-function displays, head-up display, data transfer equipment, global positioning system, situation awareness data-link, data modem, flight control system, pivot-static system and related instrumentation, flight director instrumentation, central air data computer, engine, hydraulic and fuel quantity indicating systems, voice message warning, various modes of data, intercom, secure voice communications, identification friend or foe, and tactical air navigation system.
