Duties

This position is organizationally located in the Intelligence and Counter Terrorism Branch, Correctional Programs Division (CPD). Completes the review, assessment, and analysis of inmates confined in Bureau of Prisons' (BOP) facilities who have a nexus of international and domestic terrorism, violent extremism, or an identified engagement with an extremist ideology. responsible for conducting psychological risk assessments on inmates who have a nexus of international and domestic terrorism, or an identified engagement/or have been radicalized into an extremist ideology. Communicates with Branch staff, as well as institution staff to obtain additional data on cases and utilizes identified risk assessment instruments and psychometric test data based on relevant behavioral science research to assess the inmates. Analyzes data from multiple sources to render an overall assessment of the offender's level of engagement with their extremist ideology, as well as the individual factors that led to their radicalization and engagement for each case reviewed. Prepares reports and recommendations regarding the findings and overall management of the offender while in the Bureau's custody.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Basic Requirements: Degree: Satisfactory completion of all the requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology is required. NOTE: Applicants may have received this degree in either clinical or counseling psychology. AND In addition to the basic requirements, applicants must have: Education: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position. Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically be in or related to the position to be filled. Some examples of the qualifying experience are: Experience in the assessment and treatment of offenders in a correctional setting. Experience with offenders who have a nexus to extremism or terrorism and/or experience with understanding radicalization and disengagement. Experience with a wide variety of empirically based treatment modalities and techniques including behavior therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, crisis intervention, social skills training, motivational interviewing, and relapse prevention. Experience with a wide variety of objective assessment instruments including intellectual, personality, sexual deviancy, and risk assessment. AND Selective Placement Factor: Applicants applying for this position MUST also possess the following Selective Factor. In the event that you do not possess the Selective Factor, you will be found ineligible for the position. Applicant must hold a full, current and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico) or the District of Columbia.
