Locum work is for an Indian Health Service Unit in Idaho, Washington, or Oregon. No regular work schedule or work guaranteed. Travel and per diem costs to temporary duty stations paid in accordance with federal travel regulations. We are accepting applications year-round with eligible applicants being placed on a standing register and referred for consideration as vacancies occur with referral at multiple grade levels and locations. Referral is based on the date management request is received.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Individual Occupational Requirements: These standards describe the minimum qualification requirements (for example, educational, medical, age, experience, etc.) for each occupational series. Individual Occupational Requirements for basic education, license, experience, and other qualifications for the Physician occupational series are listed below. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; or Associate of American Medical Colleges; or Liaison Committee on Medical Education or Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association , or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. Licensure For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Graduate Training Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below. An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) (external link). A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association (external link), (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)(external link). A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital, or an institution accredited in the United States for such training. For GS-11 - Applicants who meet the above Basic Requirements qualify for GS-11 (or equivalent) positions. Additional Requirements for Grades GS-12 and Above For GS-12 -- 2 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training. For GS-13 -- 3 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training. For GS-14 -- 4 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR GS-14 Grade Level: 4 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled; OR Equivalent experience and training must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform successfully the duties of the family medicine position. For example, experience includes performing comprehensive and continuing family-oriented primary medical care services for members of families at all stages of life by assuming responsibility for the diagnosis, prevention, therapy, maintenance and rehabilitation of patients based on knowledge of the patient in the context of the family and the community. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector. Selective Placement Factor: Current Board certification in a primary care specialty is required. If you possess current certification, submit a copy with your application as a supporting document. Incumbent must be board certified in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine or Pediatric Medicine. Submit a copy of your current Primary Care Physician Credential such as Board Certification by the American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS) or similar certification as a required document with your resume.. Selective factors are special qualifications that are in addition to the basic requirements and the additional requirements which are listed in a qualification standard, selective factors are determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of a particular position. Candidates who do not meet a selective placement factor are ineligible for further consideration. You submit provide evidence of your board certification at the time of application to verify that you meet the requirement. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the cut-off date or the closing date of the announcement. Cut-off date(s) are established based on the date the human resources office receives management request for a list of eligibles or every 10 days thereafter. The job announcement is open continuous until the closing date.

Education

This position has an education requirement. You are strongly encouraged to submit a copy of your transcripts or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed, and grades. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted in the application package. Official transcripts will be required from all selectees prior to receiving an official offer.
