The primary purpose of this position is to install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate complex systems of electronic digital computer systems and their components and peripheral devices.

Duties

Plans and lays out work from electrical and electronic block diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical order. Performs pretest, operational (functional), and testing, tuning, alignment; and/or calibration of complex electronic digital systems, components, and or sub assemblies. Installs, overhauls, repairs, fabricates, and or modifies electronically controlled industrial systems, digital computer processors, components, and or subassemblies. Performs preventive maintenance no electronic control systems to include disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, and calibration. Utilizes safety and security practices and procedures following established rules and regulations and maintains a safe, clean, and secure work environment.

  • The work will require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license will be required for the position.
  • This position may require the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions.
  • Will be required to train/guide lower grade (or other trades) military/civilian employees.
  • The work may require the employee to operate (with proper training) specialized vehicles, such as motorized maintenance platforms, "High Reaches", or other types of lifts.
  • Completion of a pre-Employment physical may be required.
  • Position requires moderate physical effort. Frequently lift, carry, and handle items weighing up to 40 + pounds. Work in warehouse or industrial areas are exposed to loud noises, heat or cold, fumes, etc.
  • Mechanics are subjected to potential for injuries like electric shock, cuts and bruises, and electrical burns caused by energy or soldering irons.
  • Mechanic may work in cramped positions or in close proximity to energized or operating machinery.
  • The employee may be required to travel on military or commercial aircraft.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the Electronic Equipment Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is having the ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Use of Test Equipment Electronics Theory of Electronics Ability To Use Hand and Power Tools -Electronics Trouble shooting (Electronic Equipment) Ingenuity (Ability To Suggest and Apply New Methods) PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
