About the Position: The incumbent will be expected to work within the Orthotics & Prosthetics Clinic at WRNMMC. The successful applicant will have a private office that is adjacent to the O&P lab within the America Building on the Walter Reed campus. Normal work hours occur between 0730 and 1630 hrs, Monday through Friday. While situational telework will be possible for unique circumstances, the incumbent will generally be required to work on site 40 hrs per week.

Duties

Provides oversight and leadership related to orthotics and prosthetics procurement, fitting, fabricating, and training. Coordinates/manages provider and staff schedules to ensure maximal efficiencies within the O and P clinical operations, optimizing patient access to care. Ensures O and P staff uphold professional standards of conduct within Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Manages O and P provider and staff schedules, workload, and productivity to optimize efficiencies within the clinic and ensure an equitable work environment. Abides and upholds institutional policies regarding sexual harassment/assault prevention. Ensures and facilitates O and P staff continuing education, training and competencies. Leads quality improvement initiatives to optimize safe and high-quality care. Serves as a technical specialist at a superior level in providing Orthotic and Prosthetic care. Develops long-range purchase plans to ensure state-of-the-art status for equipment and services. Serves as mediator on conduct and performance problems and resolves minor grievances. Serves as a consultant to the hospital and Department of Rehabilitation in development of research ideas, protocols and advanced applications of orthotics and prosthetics. Collaborates with physicians and occupational and physical therapists in an interdisciplinary fashion to provide comprehensive, individualized patient care. Provides services to patients with a range of disabilities in need of orthotic and prosthetic services. Interviews candidates for positions, makes recommendations for appointments, awards, and promotions.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • You must undergo a specific initial background checks, investigation and periodic re-verification check of multiple agency records to obtain and maintain a suitable determination to occupy a position having regular contact with children.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
  • This position has been designated “Mission Essential”. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
