About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.
Duties
As an Instructor / Assistant Professor in Political Science, you will teach International Relations and Introduction to Grand Strategy, as well as other advanced electives in the field.
You will conduct cutting-edge research on key questions relating to the theory, history, and practice of international relations, comparative politics, national security, or grand strategy.
You will support the personal growth and professional development of cadets in and out of the classroom as a role model for future leaders of the Nation.
You will be expected to play an active role in the development of junior military faculty and be willing to engage with cadets in activities outside of the classroom.

This is a full-time Term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 13 Months. Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be evaluated on the following: 1) Academic Accomplishment in Political Science with concentration in International Relations or a related field (Ph.D. preferred); 2) Ability to teach introductory and advance elective courses in International Relations; 3) Demonstrated experience and expertise in the field of Political Science with emphasis on International Security; 4) Ability to conduct and sustain research and/or analysis using a variety of methodological approaches to develop policy solutions; and 5) Demonstrated ability to mentor and/or advise cadets and faculty members in United States Military Academy (USMA) in and out of the classroom.
