About the Position: This position is located in the Warehouse, Material Operations Division of Materiel Management Department, which is the central point of contact for the HAZMAT Center, Naval Medical Center San Diego, CA

Duties

Incumbent is required to learn, operate and manage the Customer Area Inventory Management (CAIM) Hazmat catalog in regard, 10 ordering, inventorying and maintain adequate stock levels to support the commends Hazmat requirements Receive and inspect all incoming material shipped from military depots and commercial establishments. Deliver outgoing material it to the proper building and/or branch medical clinic. Ship all materials from Naval Hospital to military depot and commercial establishments. Prepare reports covering incoming material, weather short, lost or damaged in transit. Operate forklift, pick-up truck and two-ton truck. Coordinate monthly Hazmat training classes for the commands Hazmat Supply Petty Officers Work closely with Safety and Environmental to ensure all approved New Item Requests (NIR) are processed to the customers Authorized User List (AUL) in the CAIM computer system. Perform Inventory Management duties. Must be familiar to handle emergency situations (i.e., spills, leaking containers, accidents, est.)

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to {45} lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) MATERIALS HANDLER SUPERVISOR ~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to Lead or Supervise. Ability to perform the most difficult and complex material handler duties. I am skilled in maintaining primary oversight of the assigned section; technical competency in warehouse operations; specialized knowledge and skills in one or more areas of medical supply regulatory requirements, programs and operations; Plan, directs, coordinates and review activities of the technical staff engaged in the receipt, packaging, issue, storage and disposition of supplies and equipment to include hazardous material, temperature sensitive, controlled substances, medical gas, hazardous waste and precious metals; implement and enforce guidance for warehouse operations; provides general instructions, standard procedures, overall priorities and policies, and relies on the incumbent to control work operations and accomplish quantity and quality of work; and work is reviewed for efficient and economical accomplishment within priorities and controls received. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.Ability To Lead or SuperviseDexterity and SafetyKnowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean and in order) Physical Efforts: Must be physically fit, normally use of both arms and legs, and possess good vision and hearing. Position required frequent standing, kneeling, stooping, bending and working in uncomfortable positions. Incumbent must be able to lift and carry loads up to 45 pounds and shift and locate heavier items using appropriate material handling equipment. Working Conditions: Working conditions are both hazardous and disagreeable. Work involves regular and recurring exposure to hazardous material and waste with various characteristics such as toxicity and irritation. Work will be performed in a warehouse environment, working indoors and outdoors in all types of weather.
