The primary purpose of this position is to perform tasks involved with the inspection, troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, modification, rebuilding, testing, installation, storage, handling, accountability, security, disposition, and transportation of non-nuclear munitions and their associated components. Duties

- Inspection and Maintenance. Troubleshoot, install, repair, overhaul, modify, rebuild, de-arms, and perform surveillance inspections and tests on high value, hazardous, and high risk non-nuclear munitions and their associated assemblies and components to determine serviceability, potential hazards, and possible deterioration. - Transportation, Residue, Storage, and Handling. Receives, stores, ships, transports, and handles non-nuclear munitions assets, components and training items in base stockpile and custodian accounts. - Operations. Maintains munitions accounting functions in accordance with all applicable AFI's and regulations utilizing the Combat Ammunition System (CAS). - Control. Acts as a focal point for planning, coordinating, and controlling all munitions support on base and/or deployed locations. - Vehicles and MHE. Operates and maintains one or more types of motor vehicles and material handling equipment such as pickup, panel, and flatbed trucks with a typical gross weight of 10,000 lbs or less on Base and public roads and highways. - Tools, Safety and Security. Maintains an aggressive safety, security, and Composite Tool Kit program following all applicable regulation.

  • This is a ‘KEY’ position. Incumbent(s) must be removed from their military recall status if alternatives for filling the position during an emergency are not available.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Incumbent may be required to take part in mobility exercises and contingency operations.
  • Employee may be placed in an on-call status.
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required for the position.
  • The work requires the employee to perform force protection duties. An appropriate, valid USAF firearms qualification form (AF Form 522) and psychological profile is required for the position.
  • The work requires the individual to certify munitions inspections. Incumbent must complete either the PACAF Munitions Seminar or the AETC Munitions Inspector Course and maintain certification.
  • The employee must obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Performs additional duties as required.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
  • IAW DoDI 3020-42 this position has been locally or command designated as Mission Essential (ME); needed to ensure the continued operation of mission essential functions of the activity. Mission Essential personnel may be required to report
  • for duty at normal times when the base is closed or delayed reporting and remain on duty during phased or early release.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • PRE EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL IS REQUIRED FOR POSITION.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6600 Armament Work Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a MUNITIONS INSPECTOR AND ORDNANCE WORKER without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of the theory, operating principles, and maintenance procedures of all non-nuclear munitions and their components. 2. Knowledge of the combat ammunition system (CAS). 3. Knowledge of established safety and occupational health principles, practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and current legislative issues as they relate to military installation weapons and explosives safety. 4. Knowledge of supply procedures, technical orders, and hazardous materials management regulations. 5. Knowledge of the regulations, laws, policies, and procedures related to the US Air Force use of force policy. 6. Knowledge of munitions storage, disposal, and demilitarization procedures and procedures to determine storage locations based on compatibility, security requirements, and other determining factors. Skill to inspect all types of munitions assets and their components, determine their serviceability, and search directives, diagrams, technical orders, and manuals to determine necessary repairs. Physical Effort: The work requires moderate to heavy lifting when moving munitions by hand or hand-truck; walking and standing for prolonged periods of time; and bending stooping, pushing, and pulling heavy material on concrete or other hard surfaces. The work may require lifting and carrying weights up to 40 pounds. May handle heavier items with mechanical lifting equipment or with assistance from other workers. Work requires light to moderate physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls while driving, raising, lowering, and tilting forklift trucks and motor vehicles. Subject to possible strain caused by vibration of forklift truck. and chemical fumes while working with hazardous materials. May be required to wear protective clothing, such as hard hats, safety toe shoes, protective gloves, safety glasses, and face shields. Drives material handling equipment and motor vehicles in all types of traffic and weather conditions. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside in areas that may be hot, cold, damp, drafty, noisy, or poorly lit. May be required to remove, repair, and check out equipment aboard aircraft. Employee is subject to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises from falls from ladders, falling material, or injury from equipment. May be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, solvents, and high noise areas while working in a mechanized work area, or toxins, explosive hazards, PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
