This position is located at one of the Service Units under the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, in the Division of Nursing Services. The primary purpose of this position is to perform comprehensive professional nursing duties by assessing patients conditions, evaluate nursing needs of patients, developing a plan of care, implementing and modifying it as needs changes
Duties
Receives orientation and guidance on nursing policies, regulations and general functions of the unit to which assigned.
Plans and provides nursing care for individual patients.
Participates in nursing care planning conferences.
Administers drugs prescribed for patients.
Performs venipunctures for purpose of administration of I.V. fluid therapy.
Records case histories; measures temperature, pulse, respirations, heights, weight and blood pressure; tests vision and hearing.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied.
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-05
Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing with no experience; or possession of a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing and one full year of professional nursing experience.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: any professional nursing experience providing care to newborn, infants and pediatric patients, reviewing medical records, and administering medication in accordance with instructions, and assisting physicians with procedures; providing counseling to family members.
