You will serve as a RIGGER in the REGIONAL DIVING DIVISION, LIFTING AND HANDLING DEPARTMENT of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

Duties

You will plan, lay out, assemble, repair, and install complex weight handling gear and various standing and running rigging. You will remove and install ordinance under supervision of qualified personnel. You will rig and move objects through confined and/or underwater areas where cranes or other mobile material handling equipment cannot be used. You will determine the exact placement of such items as pad eyes, beam clamps, and chain falls used to support and balance loads along routes. You will use measuring instruments to cut materials to make complex standing and running rigging. You will work from written or oral instructions, blueprints, sketches, and on-site surveys. You will operate small boats in support of diving and docking evolutions. You will operate and maintain rigging equipment, such as cranes, forklifts, chain falls, tug-its, block and tackle, winches, turnbuckles, jacks, hooks, shackles, eye bolts, links, chain, wire rope, clips, man-made line, and common hand tools. You will perform daily checklist(s), operating procedures and scheduled maintenance on command diving equipment. You will be responsible for the safety of equipment and material handled, and for the safety of workers near the rigged object. You will eliminate or mitigate hazards such as damaged cables, connecting fittings, or equipment; overloaded gear; or unauthorized personnel in the area of the rigging and crane envelope.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You must be a graduate of a Navy Second Class Diving school or above as a prerequisite for this position.
