You will serve as a TRAINING SPECIALIST (NAVIGATION) in the Navigation & Seamanship/Mariner Skills Training Directorate of SURFACE WARFARE OFFICERS SCHOOL.

Duties

You will serve as Site Manager, and Training Instructor assessor provide advice and technical assistance regarding training requirements, curriculum analysis, design, development, and instruction in Navigation, Seamanship, and Shiphandling. You will prepare student assessment reports based on evaluation of navigation, seamanship, and ship handling training. You will explain navigational assessment program requirements and processes to the mariner community. You will supervise military and contract instructor/technician personnel in the day-to-day operation of the Navigation Seamanship and Training facility and its training systems, and in delivery of Marine Skills Training to Fleet personnel. You will review training requests daily to determine availability of trainers and assign the appropriate instructors to facilitate training You will be responsible for contract instructor qualification and ensure subordinate instructors perform their teaching responsibilities consistent with policies. You will instruct on all facets of Navigation, Seamanship, and Shiphandling (NSS), Bridge Resource Management (BRM), Electronic Charting Display and Information Systems (ECDIS), RADAR Fundamentals, Automated RADAR Plotting Aid (ARPA), and Leadership. You will provide classroom training, shiphandling simulator training, and use other computer-based training systems as training tools. You will develop, build, and integrate instruction tools based on human performance models for delivery throughout the Integrated Learning Environmen

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Possess significant knowledge of navigation, seamanship, and ship handling (NSS) principles, where this broad base of experience has prepared the incumbent to be able to teach all aspects of navigation, seamanship, and ship handling, including assessing student competencies; 2) Provide instructor led classroom training to all grades of U.S. Navy Surface Warfare Officers and Quartermasters regarding bridge watch stander duties in NSS subjects based on provided curriculum, and in accordance with the NSS Training Requirements Document and applicable Train-to-Qualify (T2Q) programs; 3) Coordinate with ship requesting training and independently design a training solution to meet the ships requirements; 4) Establish instructional and student performance requirements and standards in alignment with Fleet Skill Objects, Human Capital Objects, and Navy Mission Essential Task Lists Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management web site: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/#url=List-by-Occupational-Series Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).
