THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a OPTICAL INSTRUMENT REPAIRER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1211000 and is part of the IL CSMS 1, National Guard.

Duties

As a OPTICAL INSTRUMENT REPAIRER (TITLE 32), WG-3306-5/8/10, you will perform maintenance, repair, and inspections on optical and non-optical precision instruments and related devices. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Visually inspect optical instrument equipment and operates mechanisms to determine serviceability, damaged or worn parts, and malfunctions. Inspect, clean and make minimal repairs to the more complex optical devices such as ballistic computing range-finders; L.A.S.E.R. range finders and designators hermetically sealed, full field coincidence image fire control range-finders; and articulated telescopes containing offset prism assemblies, eyepiece assemblies, articulated joint assemblies and erector assemblies. Disassemble equipment; examine for serviceability using precision measuring instruments and special tools; checks lenses and prisms for aberrations; replaces worn or defective parts; reassembles, adjusts, and tests for alignment, collimation, and operations. Interpret and apply special modifications in accordance with prescribed Modification Work Orders (MWO'S). Refer to a variety of technical manuals to obtain proper setup and testing procedures. Use special fixtures, testing, and measuring equipment such as telescope and azimuth test fixtures, binocular collimator fixture, surface plate, micrometers, dial indicators, and depth gauges, for adjusting and testing optical instruments and devices. Abide by safety precautions when working with compressors, hoses, and tank testing equipment. Analyze and test continuity of electrical circuits by utilizing test equipment such as ohmmeter, voltmeter, and multi-voltage test set. Required to inspect, diagnose, and repair high voltage power sources used with night vision devices, aware of the hazards involved in checking high voltage circuits.

• This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
• Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence, The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Enlisted/WO - Minimum Rank of E-1 - Maximum Rank of WO1 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training that provides you with the ability to apply knowledge of optical theory and construction principles in order to test, repair, align, and collimate a variety of complex optical equipment; experience which demonstrates the ability to understand and apply instructions, and specifications; and interpret blueprints and diagrams of optical paths and mechanical linkages; experience using hand and power tools common to an optical shop. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-10 Level - MUST possess at least 18 months of experience or training repairing, rebuilding, overhauling systems and components of optical instrument equipment; experience in diagnosing malfunction in determining remedy where complex relationships exist among optical systems and supporting mechanical and electrical systems; experience in the use of a variety of measuring and testing equipment; experience interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, schematics and work orders. WG-8 Level MUST possess at least 12 months of experience or training servicing, maintaining, disassembling, assembling, repairing and testing optical instrument equipment; experience which demonstrates a your ability to diagnose malfunctions and determine remedy in specified components; experience using hand and power tools of the trade common to an optical shop, and measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers in order to fit parts and make mechanical adjustments; and experience which demonstrates the ability to collimators to optically align assemblies such as right-angle eye pieces, or complete units such as telescopes. WG-5 Level MUST possess at least 6 months of experience or training which demonstrates the ability to use common hand tools and make repetitive repairs; and experience which demonstrates the ability to assist journeyman by performing the simpler and routine duties of the trade. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
