This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: his position is located at the Yakima Training Center in Yakima, Wa. The incumbent will perform a variety of duties related to operation, maintenance and repair of wastewater and potable water systems and a self contained vehicle wash facility.

Duties

Operate and maintain all units of a Wastewater Plant which provides for complete sewage treatment to include pretreatment, primary, secondary treatment and separate sewage digestion. Operate and maintain potable water systems to include five deep well turbine pumps with chlorinators systems and 600,000 gallon storage tank with cathodic protection in the cantonment area. Apply a variety of methods, procedures and techniques to repair, overhaul and maintain wastewater treatment plant, self contained vehicle wash facility and potable water systems and equipment. Responsible for the Yakima Training Center waste oil collection and disposal. Ensure proper operation of the facility by assigned military and provides training as necessary.

  • Required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical prior to being placed into this position.
  • Position requires incumbent to have or able to obtain and maintain a valid drivers license for the duration of employment.
  • Required to obtain Water Distribution Certification within 1 year of employment.
  • Required to obtain Cross Connection Control Specialist Certification within 1 year of employment.
  • The incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, natural disasters, and other emergencies.
  • incumbent can be required to work irregular duty hours to include working nights, weekends, and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications: Ability to do the work of an Industrial Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision skilled in planning and laying out work in the overhaul, maintenance, and installation of various types of general non-production industrial plant machinery, equipment, and systems, including those with complex prototype modifications, using a variety of tools and measuring devices. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Must be able to lift and carry items weighing 40 pounds or more. - Works both inside and outside often in adverse weather conditions. Is exposed to dirt,grease, dampness, infections and diseases and chlorine and other gas fumes. May be exposed to dangers of falling into open tanks and scum chambers and the possibility of cuts, bruises and broken bones. Uses safety equipment and clothing as required.
