About the Position: This position supports the Assistant Chief of Staff, Department of Executive/Legislative Affairs at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. The execution of the program spans movement across a 243 acre campus as a component of official visits.
Duties
Support staff work on legislative initiatives, active legislation, congressional correspondence, hearings, congressional visits, briefings and internal and external communication.
Assist in closely monitoring congressional initiatives and active legislation impacting the healthcare missions and programs.
Review and monitor a variety of periodicals, papers, and journals in order to obtain information related to the command’s missions and activities.
Research and prepare reports, fact sheets, information packets, and position papers to disseminate throughout the command’s operating region.
Coordinate and support congressional briefings, legislative engagement as well as congressional delegation visits to the headquarters and the region.
Provide support in reviewing, analyzing and coordinating internal congressional correspondence.
Support all post-hearing activity reviewing transcripts, coordinating responses to the questions for the record, following up with headquarters staff.
Actively plan and execute official visits to clinical areas and housing accommodations to showcase delivery of care and educate elected leaders on healthcare delivery mission.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized experience: one year of specialized experience which includes: coordinating inquiries/meetings with congressional offices; monitoring congressional initiatives and/or legislation; and creating, editing and finalizing documents such as: briefing materials, memorandums, power point presentations; congressional inquiries and requests for information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree from an accredited college or university; in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work, such as a major in Political Science or Public Affairs. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
