This position is located in the Diagnostic Imaging Service within Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System in Little Rock, AR. The Supervisor has the overall responsibility for the coordination and performance of the Computed Tomography. He/she works closely with the technologists, radiologists, clinicians and clerical staff to assure optimum quality control, efficient coordination of activities, high quality diagnostic/therapeutic imaging exam results, and patient satisfaction.

Duties not limited to:
a. Inventory Control: Ensures that adequate quantities of CT supplies are available to meet workload demands. Assures that CT procedure rooms are kept stocked with necessary supplies at all times with special attention to emergent equipment and supplies. Works with the Assistant Chief Technologist in determining costs for specific exams, and projecting costs for budgetary purposes; coordination of evaluation and procurement of new product; and recommends methods and products to reduce costs and/or increase quality.
b. Technologist Staff Scheduling: Develops and maintains in-house 24/7 coverage for CT technologists.
c. Staff Training: Responsible for the training of new technologists in Computed Tomography, in the performance of procedures specific to that modality and organizational practices of the specific unit. Develops formal orientation, training, and evaluation programs. Recommends, coordinates and evaluates new or modified procedures/protocols. Instructs technologists on specialized tasks and new/modified procedures and policies. Participates in the education of CT technologists as well as other technologists through departmental in services. Responsible for the training and direction of support personnel in the CT department.
d. Responsible for the evaluation, communication, and completion of competency checklists and the Performance Appraisal process under the direction of the Chief Technologist. Communicates and documents informal and formal counseling, corrective actions and performance improvements plans according to established policy.
e. Coordinates and maintains research projects that include CT imaging. Assures proper performance and record keeping for approved research protocols.
f. Equipment Maintenance/Repair: Coordinates the repair of CT and ancillary equipment. Serves as the liaison between Imaging Service and Biomedical Engineering and repair contractors. Tracks and maintains records of repair histories and vendor performance. Monitors work performance by contractors and in-house Services assuring satisfactory completeness. Recommends equipment improvements, repairs, upgrades, etc. Participates in developing specifications for new equipment requests. Develops and maintains in the quality control program.
g. RME-Pre-cleaning and cleaning of Reusable Medical Equipment: Ensures staff performs the processes to prepare and/or pre-clean Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) per Standard Operating Procedures, and policies (i.e. 4.24). Preparation and/or pre-cleaning will be specific to each device according to manufacturer's recommendations as required. Follows all infection prevention guidelines related to these processes including, but not limited to, maintaining the separation of clean and dirty items, the use of appropriate PPE (including eye protection, gloves), testing of disinfectant when appropriate.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency. DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d).
Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable.Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent can operate independently and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist.
Education: Applicants must have completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).
Grade Determinations:
Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, GS-0647-11
Experience. At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level.
i. Ability to analyze organizational, technical, and administrative problems and to develop and implement solutions that result in efficient section operation.
ii. Ability to analyze and use data effectively to manage section workload, quality, performance, and productivity.
iii. Skill in problem solving and conflict resolution.
iv. Ability to supervise technologists performing a wide variety of difficult radiographic exams (CT, MRI, Special Procedures, Mammography, Ultrasound).
v. Ability to interview and evaluate candidates for positions, evaluate subordinate performance, recommend appointments, advancements, or recommend or take appropriate disciplinary actions. vi. Skill in participating in organizational facility initiatives, workgroups, and/or committees
Preferred Experience: An Advanced Registry in Computer Tomography through ARRT.

The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS 11.
