Environmental Management Services serves the healthcare needs of America's Veterans in North Florida/South Georgia by providing a wide array of medical services including specialized care and related medical and social support programs. In FY2016, North Florida/South Georgia VHS served over 130,000 unique Veterans with approximately 1.3 million visits, which made us the busiest facility. The complexity level of the facility is 1A and the largest system in VISN 8 consisting of two medical centers
Duties
Environmental Management Service consists of several sections including Sanitation Operations, Waste Management, Laundry/linen, and Interior Design. With over 260 employees, Environmental Management Service ensures the facility is maintained in a state of physical, biological cleanliness, and appearance which fully meets the sanitary and aesthetic requirements by providing environmental sanitation for the clinic, public and administrative areas.
The WL- 2 Housekeeping Aid Work Leader major duties included not limited too:
Guarantees efficient, effective coverage of all assigned areas and uses independent judgment on assignment of work.
Daily contact with the supervisor to determine necessary adjustments in work assignments.
Receives instructions or sequence of work methods, procedures and deadlines.
Reports on the quality control of work, abnormal function of equipment and/or fluctuation in work output of the unit, status and progress of work and reasons for work delays.
Discusses overall work operations and problems, need for supplies and equipment and additional on-the job training for individuals.
Ensures workers adhere to safety, fire and housekeeping regulations in their duties. Inspects work of his/her group, and has the authority to correct workers, and instruct them in proper tool usage, work methods, and routine instructions, policies, and procedures.
Responsible for the maintenance of work areas, housekeeping and moving equipment in a clean sanitary, and safe state at all times.
The work leader works under the general supervision of the General Foreman and/or the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor, but exercises independent judgment and considerable latitude over the activities of his/her employees. When the General Foreman or Supervisor is absent, the work leader receives administrative support from the Acting General Foreman or acting supervisor.
The work leader must be sensitive to the customer's needs; customers include employees, staff, visitors, patients and volunteers. Incumbent projects a positive image of the service and proactively interfaces with the customer in resolving
problems.
Responsible for representing EMS in a positive and professional manner and follows all Medical Center policies and procedures.
Complies with health, safety and environment rules and procedures, and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment.
Work Schedule: Various work schedules available. May require rotating call coverage, weekdays, nights, weekends and/or holidays. The supervisor will determine the actual work schedule based on the needs of the organization.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: This position requires sustained walking, standing, stretching, bending and stooping. Lifts, loads or unloads trash cans, mop buckets, furniture and equipment weighting up to 50 pounds. Incumbent must use proper body mechanics when lifting heavy loads and pushing loads weighing up to 200 pounds. Coordinated hand and eye movement are required to operate power equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Particular attention must be given to broken equipment, slippery floors, safety and fire hazards. All hazards and breakdowns of equipment must be immediately reported to the supervisor. In addition to being exposed to noise, heat, humidity, bacteria and solvent fumes.
