Duties
This Equal Opportunity Assistant position is located Civil Rights & Liberties, Ombudsman and Traveler Engagement/ Civil Rights, Equity, Access and Inclusion (CREAI) Division, Transportation Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Duties include but are not limited to:
Provides technical assistance to managers, supervisors, and employees within the Division on all aspects pertaining to the proper coding for all stages of the federal EEO complaint process.
Assigns case files to EEO Specialists in accordance with a rotational schedule. Works under the direction of a manager, coordinating only to prioritize assignments and use assigned resources.
Tracks notice of appeals and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) acknowledgement of appeals. Assembles and uploads digital PDF files into the EEOC's Federal Sector EEO Portal (FedSEP) within required timeframes.
Responds to pre-complaint inquiries of a general nature, such as obtaining basic information for transfer into the agency-wide enterprise system in order to track cases prior to referral to EEO Specialists.
Prepares correspondence for signature by higher-level officials, such as response to Congressional inquiries, using relevant case file information.
Qualifications
To qualify for the SV-F Pay Band (equivalent to GS-9), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the SV-E Pay Band or GS-8 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position to be filled. Specialize experience is defined as:
Experience assisting with the development of reports (i.e. researching files, records, and electronic systems).
Experience providing correspondence to multiple level staff utilizing various communication software (i.e. Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint and Word.)
Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
