Duties
Leads three or more workers to accomplish trades and labor work. Passes instructions on to other workers. Ensures that needed tools and materials are available. Sees that all workers have enough work
(Cont.) Checks work in progress and completed work for compliance. Answers workers questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions and directions.
Provides information to supervisor on status and progress of work.
Receives, examines and determines the condition and disposition of a wide variety of materials.
Reviews disposal turn-in document (DTID) accompanying material and compares data against property to assure correct information including proper documentation.
Visually inspects usable property for obvious signs of condition and determines acceptability.
Determines condition and reportability and special handling requirements (e.g., hazardous material, precious metals, security, DEMIL, Special focus items, etc.) and assigns appropriate classification instructions for warehousing.
Verifies accuracy of demilitarization codes, takes action to challenge questionable items/codes, and maintains segregated storage of property requiring DEMIL
Ensures proper certification is attached to turn-in document when demilitarized by host or generating activity.
Performs special and periodic inventory of property; re-palletizes/re-locates property as necessary.
Operates forklifts and related materials handling equipment to move, load and unload, stack or un-stack palletized materials, supplies, and equipment.

Qualifications
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.
Ability to lead or Supervise: I instruct other workers on less complex work methods; refer to manuals as a means in answering questions related to the duties and responsibilities of the position; and adhere to all safety standards.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Physical Effort
Light to moderate physical effort is required involving walking, bending, stooping, reaching and lifting light to medium weight objects of up to approximately 30 pounds for identifying and segregating items and positioning items, cartons and cases for handling by forklift trucks.
Working Conditions
Work is performed chiefly inside warehouse and storage areas but may require frequent work on outdoor dock areas, at scrap yards, and other areas exposed to varying weather conditions. Inside work areas are usually not heated or cooled. Is subject to minor cuts, bruises, dust, dirt and grease and must exercise precautions to avoid serious injury from carelessness of other workers in operation of forklifts and other equipment in the work area.
