The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position.
The incumbent performs very heavy manual labor including lifting and moving very heavy furniture, equipment and supplies through confined spaces. Using weight-handling equipment, the laborer moves forms, supplies, property, and equipment to and from the warehouse.
The position requires knowledge and skill in the operation and control of heavy power equipment. The laborer must also know how to work safely with heavy tools. The position operates weight-handling devices such as electric hand trucks, pallet jacks and dollies to move very heavy loads. Significant skill is required to load and unload very heavy items onto weight-handling equipment. The nature of the duties and the kind of equipment used require continual care and attention. This is necessary to avoid accident and to complete
work according to established schedules. Prior job experience or on-the-job training is normally required to gain this level of manual skill.
Qualifications
Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:
BASIC REQUIREMENT WG-03: To be eligible for this position at this grade level, you must meet the requirements below: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. To be qualifying your experience should demonstrate the following: Able to perform very heavy manual labor including lifting and moving very heavy equipment and supplies through confined spaces. Use weight-handling equipment to move forms, supplies, property, and equipment to and from the warehouse. Possess knowledge and skill in the operation and control of heavy power equipment and know how to work safely with heavy tools. Operation of weight-handling devices such as electric hand trucks, pallet jacks and dollies to move very heavy loads. Prior job experience or on-the-job training is normally required to gain this level of manual skill. Physical Requirement: Able to exert very heavy physical effort in performing such tasks as lifting and moving objects weighing over 50 pounds and operating heavy equipment.
TIME AFTER COMPETITIVE APPOINTMENT: By the closing date (or if this is an open continuous announcement, by the cut-off date) specified in this job announcement, current civilian employees must have completed at least 90 days of federal civilian service since their latest non-temporary appointment from a competitive referral certificate, known as time after competitive appointment.
