Employee will serve as a Visual Information Specialist aligned to the Public Affairs and Medial Service Office located at the Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Affairs Hospital, Hines, IL.
Duties

Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following:
Visual Graphics/Production:
Performs complex visual design/display duties independently, both internal and external to the facility, includes professionally designed poster sessions, handbooks, manuals, recruiting brochures, posters, medical illustrations, patient education materials, print and digital flyers and other graphic media.
Applies productions methods and design/layout using graphic design programs, e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Publisher, etc.
Collaborates with stakeholders to define informational objective and the nature of the intended audience and applies skill in transforming complex topics into graphic designs.
Designs, exhibits, and displays visual content, usually dealing with specialized medical health care subjects.
Plans, develops, and constructs exhibits that require two- and three-dimensional effects (photographs, murals, illustrations, diagrams).
Makes decisions about contrasting shapes, textures, surfaces, heights, color schemes, size, and placement of material that will attract and retain interest of the intended audience.
Plans with speakers, the visual materials needed for presentations.
Photography, Video Support, and Production:
Provides photography, videography, and production services focusing on the environment and restrictions of the environment (e.g., operating room conditions; direct care areas; research environment; etc.)
Provides photography/videography for award presentations, special ceremonies, events and programs, employee services, patients, community communication activities, etc.
Creates word texts, animated graphics, soundbites, transcription, and closed captioning.
Conference Productions Support:
Supports virtual, live, and recorded conferences, trainings, presentations, teleconferences, and meetings by assisting in setting up and operating audiovisual equipment.
Coaches' presenters on ways to optimize the available technology and space while delivering their message.
Administrative and Quality Management:
Coordinates, plans, organizes, and executes formal requests for media productions, negotiating content, deadlines, and setting priorities.
Maintains operating material inventories and requesting media equipment and supplies, within budget allocations.
Ensures consent forms for internal and external use of pictures, video and voice are properly completed, filed, and maintained.
Serves as quality assurance evaluator; ensures medial products adhere to the copywrite and intellectual property regu7lations.
Performs other duties as necessary.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires one full year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other artwork, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means. -OR-
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. Education must be in a major study - commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment. -OR-
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of successfully completed related graduate education (in excess of 2 years) and related specialized experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, sitting, or recurrent lifting of moderately heavy items such as equipment and large rolls of oversize printer paper. Manual dexterity between hands and eyes and the ability to perceive and sense color hues and chroma accurately is necessary.
