Duties

You will perform quality assurance inspections of life support equipment as well as, repairs, and repacks. You will work with life support equipment and may design and/or develop new equipment and write instructions on proper use. You will participate in investigations that result from Product Quality Deficiency Reports (PQDR) and performing reviews of engineering drawings and technical manuals. You will perform rigger inspections and repair of fleet parachutes supporting the Parachute Packing Loft. You will assist with fabrication of various items including Mylar bags, repairing harnesses and inspecting/packing emergency bailout parachute systems. You will interpret requirements from drawings and specifications and determine acceptability of products being evaluated. You will perform fabrication of complex textile items for test and evaluation of parachute systems, ALSS and Naval Airborne Operations gear and accessories with little or no oversight. You will handle energetics associated with parachute systems.

Requirements

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You must obtain and maintain an Ordnance Handler certificate.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

DT-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the DT-03 (GS 9-10 equivalent) pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate some or all of the following: 1) Inspecting, repairing, and repacking life support equipment; 2) Working with, designing, and/or developing new life support equipment; 3) Performing rigger inspections and repair of fleet parachutes supporting the Parachute Packing Loft; 4) Assisting with fabrication of various items including Mylar bags, repairing harnesses and inspecting/packing emergency bailout parachute systems; 5) Interpreting requirements from drawings and specifications and determining acceptability of products being evaluated; and 6) Handling energetics associated with parachute systems. DT-03: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the DT-02 (GS 5-8 equivalent) pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate some or all of the following: 1) Inspecting, repairing, and repacking life support equipment; 2) Working with and/or developing new life support equipment; 3) Performing repair of fleet parachutes supporting the Parachute Packing Loft; 4) Assisting with fabrication of various items including Mylar bags, repairing harnesses and inspecting/packing emergency bailout parachute systems; 5) Interpreting requirements from drawings and specifications and determining acceptability of products being evaluated; and 6) Handling energetics associated with parachute systems.
