Qualifications
To qualify for the GS-11 level, you must have one of the following:
1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level defined as reviewing electronic records; providing legal support to one or more attorneys during legal proceedings.
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., if related; the education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position
equivalent combination of education and experience
To qualify for the GS-12 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level defined as providing legal support including legal research, writing, document compilation/review/formatting, and/or assistance with litigation.
Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:
Ability to perform extensive and thorough legal research.
Knowledge of the Agency's mission and policies as they relate to the enforcement of administrative actions.
Knowledge of civil and criminal provisions of environmental protection statutes.
Ability to investigate and become familiar with subject matter details involved in a case or legal matter.
Ability to plan, direct and coordinate activities to conduct the review and evaluation of potential enforcement actions, FOIA responses, and eDiscovery.
Skill in written communication.
Skill in oral communication.
Knowledge of business principles and techniques, including information technology tools.
Ability to use LexisNexis, Westlaw, Relativity, Adobe Pro, and other computer assisted legal research, records management and eDiscovery tools as well as traditional law library case books, reporters and trade publications.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
