This position is located in the Intermountain Region, Region 4 on the Sawtooth National Forest in Ketchum, ID. The Lead Visitor Information Assistant is responsible for leading the interpretive and operational work of Park Rangers and Interns at the Visitor Center, as well as for overseeing the front desk operations and acts a liaison to the general public in order to provide information and answer questions.

Duties

Oversee front desk operations for visitors center to ensure optimum customer service. Provide interpretive answers to a wide variety of visitor interests. Serve as collection officer through sales and collection of monies for passes in accordance with manual and handbook requirements. Plan and/or present interpretive talks and programs for visitors, local schools, and other groups. Use a variety of tools, such as drawings, activity specific tools, and/or audio/visual equipment as interpretive aids for presentations. Coordinate with staff specialists and public affairs office to provide the latest, most accurate and appropriate information to the public.

Requirements

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. Provide course descriptions as necessary. Specialized Experience Requirement: For theGS-6: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level. Specialized experience is define as one or more: Serving as a collection officer for the sale of books, maps, t-shirts, permits, passes or tickets; accounting for inventory, supplies and monies collected; Preparing recurring reports on items tracked on a regular basis, such as trends in public information needs; Performing routine, repetitive daily activities for visitor center operations, greeting visitors, and replying to inquiries requesting general information about organizational activities, programs and policies. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
