About the Position: Serve as the supervisor of the Military Working Dog (MWD) Section under the Special OPS Division, responsible for planning, directing, training, and managing MWD operations.

Duties

Lead the Military Working Dog (MWD) training and utilization program to ensure all teams are properly trained and utilized in investigations, law enforcement, and security missions. Evaluate assigned MWD teams, determine training requirements, and develop individualized plans which are specifically tailored towards improving weaknesses and enhancing the team's proficiency. Train all personnel involved in the training of narcotic/explosives detector dogs on the correct procedures involved in the handling, security, accountability, and control of narcotic/explosive training aids. Respond to reports of crime ranging from violations of law, simple rules and regulations, felonies, and capital crimes and issue citations for violations, draft complaints, and refer cases for administrative and/or legal proceedings. Plan, schedule, and assign work to be carried out by subordinates and review work to ensure all tasks are performed timely and accurately.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Must undergo and pass physical examination annually IAW AR 190-56.
  • Must undergo and pass physical agility test annually IAW AR 190-56.
  • Must successfully complete CPR certification and First Aid.
  • This position requires Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) up to 10%
  • Successfully graduated from the Department of Defense, Military Working Dog Handler Course and Military Working Dog Trainer/Kennel Master Course or be able to complete within one year of hire date.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain certification with his/her assigned Military Working Dog according to US Army Certification Standards. All Authorized MWDs must receive their initial certification within six months of assignment as a Team.
  • Must pass criminal history background checks.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing. The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • Incumbent will be required to perform a weapons qualification test and maintain proficiency in assigned weapons and law enforcement associated equipment.
  • Lautenburg Amendment: This position authorizes the incumbent to carry a firearm. Any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition (Title 18, U.S.C., Section 922(g)(91)).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid government vehicle operator's license, endorsed for emergency vehicles.
  • This position is subject to the terms and conditions of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) IAW AR 190-56.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear the Department of the Army Civilian Police (DACP) uniform and other required safety apparel.
  • Incumbents of this position must complete and pass the required U.S. Army Civilian Police Academy (USACPA), at the Law Enforcement Training Center, FT Leonard wood, MO.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings. Employees shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis to include working overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotational basis around a 24-hour day, 7 days a week.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • This position requires the incumbent to be at least 21 years of age.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes leading and training Military Working Dog (MWD) teams in the use of force, investigations, locating illegal narcotics, explosive devices, and illegal activity; maintaining and inspecting the MWD facility, training areas, patrol vehicles, and equipment to ensure proper care and safety of Military Working Dogs (MWD) and assigned personnel; preventing, detecting, and investigating accidents, crimes, and misconduct, apprehending violators, assisting citizens in emergency situations, maintaining order, protecting life, property and the civil rights of individuals.. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
