Duties
You will perform work that involves planning and coordinating the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and/or maintenance of hardware or software systems.
You will implement security plans, policies, and preventive maintenance schedules.
You will carry out routine maintenance, upgrades, and support of hardware, operating systems, and/or applications software.
You will provide ongoing optimization and problem solving support to minimize interruptions in customers' ability to carry out critical business activities.
You will perform a variety of functions on a wide range of IT issues; interpret and apply IT policies, processes, and guidelines; conduct systems and applications analysis; and recommend resolution to problems and issues.
You will work on assigned projects to meet future needs; install new or modified hardware, operating systems, and applications software; manage accounts, network rights, and access to systems and equipment.
You will utilize diagnostic tools and techniques to verify operability, optimize the functionality of networks and/or systems, and to diagnose/recover failed systems.

- This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for specialty area 451 within 12 months of appointment.
- You will be required to maintain eligibility for a Top Secret clearance.
- This is a designated Information Assurance Officer (IAO) position. IAO certification is required.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Developing and implementing configuration management plans for complex LANs and WANS; 2) Configuring network hubs, switches and routers as a network administrator; 3) Monitoring network performance and network traffic patterns; 4) Recommending hardware/software replacements or upgrades to meet current and future requirements; and 5) Identifying and mitigating security vulnerabilities and risks.
Also, your resume must demonstrate once year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined:
1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency includes: Installing network software fixes and upgrades.
2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency includes: Working closing with customers to ensure seamless implementation of IT products or equipment.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency includes: Briefing customers on IT security requirements.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency includes: Troubleshooting network problems such as outages.
