About the Position: This is a Lock and Dam Equipment Mechanic WY-10/11 position with USACE Little Rock District, Operations Division; with the McClellan Kerr Project Office, Russellville Site Office, Russellville, AR.
May be filled at the WY-10 (target WY-11), or the WY-11. Promotion is at management discretion.
This position is exclusively represented by Local 953, AFGE AFL-CIO.
Duties
Principal mechanic at a large lock and dam site
Implement and maintain site-specific program of scheduled inspections, test operations, and preventative maintenance of a wide variety of electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and mechanically interlocking facility equipment and controls
Schedule day-to-day maintenance and repair work
Short and Long term preventative maintenance planning
Perform complex troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical navigation equipment issues
Responsible for diagnostic maintenance inspection
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Drug screening and random drug testing.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment physical examination and an annual examination.
- Will may be required to work occasional weekends and holidays.
- Heavy Lifting up to 50 lbs.
- This is a Mission Essential Position.
- Position is required to obtain and maintain a valid State's driver license.

Minimum Qualifications for the WY-10: (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) LOCK AND DAM EQUIPMENT MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. This includes tasks associated with the maintenance of lock or lock and dam machinery and/or equipment including operating power driven hand tools, use of tools to accomplish maintenance tasks. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Minimum Qualifications for the WY-11: (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n)LOCK AND DAM EQUIPMENT MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. This includes: preventative maintenance and minor repairs to mechanical AND electrical equipment and systems containing hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical controls at a navigation and/or industrial facility.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort: Work requires frequent standing, stooping, stretching, climbing and crouching. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Uses coordination of eyes, hand and feet, and also of legs and body in installing, repairing, or testing equipment in confined areas such as manholes. Climbs ladders and poles.
Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside during the day and at night, as required by emergencies, on high structures over water that is frequently turbulent, in the proximity of moving machinery and high tension electrical wires, and on scaffolds or slings. Occasionally, works behind bulkhead or in tunnels below water level. Is subject to falls, drowning, electrical shocks, injury and discomfort, exposure to moving equipment, machinery, loud noises, inclement weather, and dangerous icy conditions. Uses safety equipment such as life vest, protective hearing devices, hard hat, hard-toe shoes, respirators, and protective clothing.
