The VA Caribbean Healthcare System Mental Health Service is recruiting for a GS-09/11 Social Worker. The PRRC social worker operates under the direct supervision of the Social Work Executive and Program Manager. The social worker serves as Recovery Liaison for the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC). The PRRC program provides comprehensive and intensive services to seriously mentally ill (SMI) Veteran population and their families.

Duties

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to; The incumbent is responsible for a wide range of psychosocial services to Veterans and their families. The incumbent must be able to independently implement the recovery model of treatment. The incumbent will provide consultation/education to Veterans and families on community resources, advance directives and VA benefits. The incumbent will provide recovery-based individual and group psychotherapeutic interventions to Veterans and measure outcomes to interventions. The incumbent will document social work interventions and activities, including a treatment plan, review plan of care, and a discharge plan, in the Veteran's clinical record utilizing CPRS, and ensure appropriate hand off when transferring patient care. The incumbent participates in the diagnostic, evaluative, and dispositional review of Veterans. The incumbent participates in regular PRRC team meetings, sharing observations and information aimed at enhancing the Veteran's treatment. The incumbent will act as a consultant to other team/staff members regarding the Veteran's psychosocial status as well as available community resources. The incumbent will work in collaboration with the Recovery Team to develop and implement recovery-oriented programming for the care and treatment of Veterans. The incumbent will act as liaison between VA and community resources, to include marketing and public relation duties as needed. The incumbent will provide wellness/prevention education and facilitate Veteran/family support groups as appropriate. The incumbent will participate in committee assignments, as deemed necessary by the program manager. The incumbent will maintain data and statistical compilations to comply with Joint Commission, CARF and VA medical center policy and procedures. This includes utilization of measurement-based care to inform treatment interventions and program evaluation and action planning activities. The PRRC social worker will rapidly assess to crisis situations, facilitating and supportive responses, as indicated by the situation. The incumbent will recognize potential barriers veterans may face when attempting to access services and will act as an advocate when it serves the best interest of the veteran and/or family. When appropriate and feasible, the social worker will educate and encourage the veteran/family to advocate on own behalf, thus fostering a sense of independence and empowerment. The social worker will remain apprised of changing and emerging veteran needs. The social worker will identify service gaps and collaborate with others within the VAMC and/or community to encourage development or modification of services necessary to meeting the needs of veterans. OR Education: In addition to meeting basic requirements, a doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work may be substituted for the required one (1) year of professional social work experience in a clinical setting.
