The Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) mission is to accelerate the adoption of data, analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI) across the Department of Defense (DoD). The CDAO Algorithmic Warfare (AW) Directorate provides expertise in the testing of AI and AI-enabled systems for the DoD and utilizes knowledge of AI testing to accelerate the acquisition of AI technology by the Department.

For more information see https://public.cyber.mil/cw/dod-cyber-excepted-service-ces/ Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following: Provides subject matter expertise to advise DoD partners on application of policy, best practices, standards, principles, theories, and techniques in order to ensure successful and effective T&E of projects. Works closely with existing DoD AI partners to collect lessons learned and best practices, as well as to understand the application of AI T&E policy. Presents comprehensive briefs on existing AI T&E policy and/or tools, relevant Department guidance, federal law and regulations, and relevant technological and scientific considerations to CDAO leadership. Leads and coordinates development of AI testing software, manages a team of vendor software developers, and acts as a Deputy Program Manager for the AI test tools development efforts. Reviews project test plans, test schedule, resource needs, and test performance metrics to conduct test and evaluation activities for algorithmic testing, systems integration testing, UI/UX testing, and operational testing.

The curriculum was (1) in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Or Combination of college level education, training and/or technical experience that furnished. (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: 1) Current Professional Engineering registration by an State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico; or 2) Written Test with evidence of successfully passing the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination, or the written test for professional registration, which is administered by the Boards of Engineering Examiners within the States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. Computer Scientist - 1550 Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. You may qualify at the GG-15 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GG-14 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to: Applying computer science and information systems engineering concepts, theories, principles, standards, and techniques; Utilizing test, evaluation, and assessment concepts, to create new applications and resolve problems related to artificial intelligence; Applying knowledge of DoD Policies, Federal Law, and Federal Regulations governing national security subjects related to information systems; Applying knowledge of current test standards and safety standards and their application to AI technologies; Managing development of AI test software and leading teams; Communicating complex information, both orally and in writing to provide recommendations to promote efficiency and effectiveness. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
