The primary purpose of this position is to inspect, troubleshoot, repair, modify, and make final adjustments to one or more types of models of malfunctioning conventional and/or modified aircraft engines and auxillary power units whil on the aircraft.

Duties

- Troubleshoots one or more types or models of malfunctioning conventional and/or modified aircraft engines. - Disassembles, repairs, and reassembles aircraft engines, their assemblies, and components. - Uses a variety of hand and power tools. - Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area.

  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
  • The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: The work requires moderate to strenuous effort. Must stand, stoop, bend, reach, climb, and crawl.
  • Frequently handles items weighing up to 20 pounds, and occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. hoists, hand trucks, lifts, or other employees are available to assist when handling heavy or awkward items.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG- 8602 Aircraft Engine Mechanic Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an Aircraft Worker without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of installation, operation, and repair of a variety of conventional and modified aircraft engines and accessory systems to troubleshoot, maintain, repair and/or test different types of engines. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. Skill in the use of diagnostic and on-board electronic equipment and systems, automated test equipment, standard and precision measuring instruments such as vibration analyzers, pyrometers, and test benches, and to use computer terminals or personal computers to obtain reference materials, and to update operational and maintenance records. Ability to locate, read, and interpret technical orders, manufacturers' manuals, maintenance bulletins, complex multi-view blueprints, schematic drawings, and other technical information. Ability to troubleshoot engine malfunctions, interpret trouble reports or observed instrument readings, appearances, etc.; make a tentative diagnosis; select needed tools and test equipment; and disassemble the engine or accessory system to locate the defect. Ability to adapt emerging technology and use new tools, test devices, digital diagnostic equipment, and engine analysis software in the repair and rework of engine parts and components and replace accessories such as portions of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
