This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

VA Careers - Pharmacy: https://youtube.com/embed/Fn_ickNBEws Total-Rewards-of-an-Allied-Health-VA-Career-Brochure.pdf Duties include, but are not limited to: Clinical Engaging in direct patient care for an aging, adult population which requires the knowledge, skills and consideration of specific patient conditions Evaluating patients and providing therapeutic and pharmacokinetic consultations in a timely manner when requested In accordance with an Advanced Scope of Practice, evaluating, prescribing and monitoring the provision of medications to patients and identifying drug related problems that may be affecting the outcome of patient care including drug interactions, adverse drug reactions, side effects, toxicities, inappropriate prescribing, patient non-compliance, etc. Communicating findings to the patient's primary physician or provider Participating in investigation, documentation and reporting of adverse drug reactions and medication errors Developing individualized therapeutic plans utilizing the most efficacious, least toxic and most economical pharmacological treatment modalities available and communicating recommendations verbally or in writing to the patient's primary physician Developing individualized dosing regimens based on the pharmacokinetics of the drug(s) employed, renal and hepatic function and other pertinent parameters of the patient in question and communicating recommendations, either verbally or in writing to the patient's primary physician or provider Conducting patient interviews to determine a medication history and additional information regarding disease state/drug therapy when evaluating a clinical situation and when necessary, educating patients on the proper use and expected effects of their medications Dispensing Inputting and/or verifying information into computer system for outpatient oral or injectable medication orders Dispensing controlled substances and accounting for inventory in accordance with existing VA regulation and Federal law Responding to copay and billing concerns Education Serving as preceptor to VA/Texas Tech post-graduate Pharmacy Practice Residents and Texas Tech P3 or P4 Pharmacy Students as assigned. Participating in continuing education programs for pharmacists, aimed at maintaining state licensure, continuing competence in an ever-changing pharmaceutical environment, and encouraging further use and development of clinical skills Participating in providing clinical pharmacy-oriented conferences and in services for VA Staff and Texas Tech affiliates when requested as well as supervising and serving as the content expert for any educational programs provided by pharmacy students or residents for VA Staff when incumbent serves as their preceptor Research Assisting in organization and coordination of Pharmacy Service participation in investigational drug studies when assigned Program Management Serving as a technical authority on therapeutic clinical pharmacy matters involving the area of practice, except those which affect pharmacy policies or procedures or are outside the pharmacy domain Following local policies and procedures assuring compliance with all VA, FDA, DEA, TJC, OIG and SAIL recommendations and regulations Maintaining a close liaison with the entire professional staff to promote the rational and cost-effective use of drugs Completing assigned quality assurance monitors in a timely manner and reporting any significant trends or problematic areas identified to supervisor or program manager Work Schedule: Fulltime, Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Not authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not authorized EDRP Authorized: Contact [email protected], the EDRP Coordinator for questions/assistance. Education: Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. Verification of approved degree programs may be obtained from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, 20 North Clark Street, Suite 2500, Chicago, Illinois 60602-5109; phone: (312) 664-3575, or through their Web site at: http://www.acpe-accredit.org/. (NOTE: Prior to 2005 ACPE accredited both baccalaureate and Doctor of Pharmacy terminal degree program. Today the sole degree is Doctor of Pharmacy.) Graduates of foreign pharmacy degree programs meet the educational requirement if the graduate is able to provide proof of achieving the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission (FPGEC) Certification, which includes passing the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT). Licensure: Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. The pharmacist must maintain current registration if this is a requirement for maintaining full, current, and unrestricted licensure. A pharmacist who has, or has ever had, any license( s) revoked, suspended, denied, restricted, limited, or issued/placed in a probationary status may be appointed only in accordance with the provisions in VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, section B, paragraph 16. Physical Requirements: See VA Directive and Handbook 5019. English Language Proficiency: Pharmacists must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: GS-13 - Pharmacist (Clinical Pharmacy Specialist) Experience. In addition to the GS-12 requirements, must have 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. Pharmacists assigned to this position must demonstrate the following KSAs: Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions. Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards for their program area. Ability to solve problems, coordinate and organize responsibilities to maximize outcomes in their program area or area of clinical expertise. Expert knowledge of a specialized area of clinical pharmacy practice or specialty area of pharmacy. Advanced skill in monitoring and assessing the outcome of drug therapies, including physical assessment and interpretation of laboratory and other diagnostic parameters. The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-13.
