Duties
Provide medical physics support for the Department of Radiology activities involving the use of medical radiation in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Serve as the hospital's Radiation Safety Officer managing the ionizing radiation safety and radioactive materials programs.
Support the safety and development of DoD personnel as an educator, trainer, and preceptor.
Provide consultative support to clinical staff, leadership, and support personnel at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson.
Provide remote consultative support to other DHA facilities upon request, when feasible.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing one or more of the following: Providing guidance on use of the ionizing and nonionizing equipment, overseeing procedures related to the use and testing of diagnostic radiology equipment in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computerized Tomography (CT), Ultrasound, and Fluoroscopy at a large medical facility. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).
Basic Requirement for Physicist (Diagnostic Radiology Medical):A. Education: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physics, or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics. The courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound. Selective Placement Factor: Applicant must meet the Food and Drug Administration and American College of Radiology qualification requirements for performance of physics evaluations on full field digital mammography and digital breast tomosynthesis systems. The member must possess an active American Board of Radiology (ABR) or American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) board certification in Diagnostic Medical Physics. Other candidates may be considered provided they can demonstrate that they meet any existent qualification requirements for a diagnostic medical physicist by the host US State and ACR medical physicist qualification requirements for CT, MRI, Mammography, and Stereotactic Breast Biopsy accreditation programs. Individual must maintain qualifications needed to provide diagnostic medical physics support services. As of Jan 2021, acceptable certifications from the ABR and ABMP are: Diagnostic Medical Physics, Diagnostic Radiological Physics, Imaging Physics, and Radiological Physics.
