This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
Duties
The scope of duties of the Vascular Medical Instrument Technician outlined in their Functional Statement are:
1. Advanced knowledge of the most complex and non-standard treatment and examination procedures and techniques.
*2. Ability to plan and assist in the establishment of a completely integrated treatment and examination program.
*3. Ability to evaluate new products and equipment and make recommendations concerning developments which would improve operations.
*4. Ability to manage the fiscal matters of the functions supervised (which would include fund controls, contracts, and equipment expenditures), forecast resource and equipment needs, and administer the allocated budget.
*5. Knowledge of and ability to provide the full range of supervisory duties which would include responsibility for assignment of work to be performed; performance evaluation; selection of staff; and recommendation of awards, advancements, and, when appropriate, disciplinary actions.
Additional Supervisor duties are outlined below:
1.Responsible for daily operation on the day shift of the Vascular Lab to ensure optimal patient throughput and examinations of diagnostic quality. Will supervise all technical and ancillary personnel in order to provide the appropriate standard of care for all patients; this will include technologists, MSAs and other aides assigned to the area.
2. Develop and implement schedules including work assignments, vacation and holiday coverage in conjunction with the Medical Director of the Vascular Lab.
3. Ensures compliance to all Hospital and regulatory agency policies and adheres to the department quality assurance guidelines. Ensures that vascular examinations are consistently of optimal quality and in accordance with national guidelines.
4. Responsible for reporting attendance on a daily basis.
5. Initiates employee evaluations, reports problems relating to staffing, morale, work methods, procedures and recommends action in all personnel matters for employees assigned to this area to the Medical Director of the Vascular Lab.
6. Conducts periodic staff meetings of the Vascular Lab to ensure efficient operation of the lab.
7. Assist in budget preparation, long term planning and employee orientation as needed.
8. Responsible for inventory, procurement, overseeing storage and maintenance of equipment.
9. Performs spot-checks of each type of test performed in the lab at least quarterly to ensure appropriate quality control.
10. Concentrate on improving customer service and patient satisfaction.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education/Training. To be creditable education must have been gained in an accredited Community College, College, or University.
Licensure or Certification. Registration by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS) or by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) is highly desirable. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are desirable.
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Grade Determinations:
GS-10
(a) Experience. At least 1 year of experience comparable to the next lower grade level, which is directly related to the duties of the position to be filled, and must fully meet the KSAs at that level. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*):
(b) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. KSAs 1, 2, and 3 are appropriate for all positions at this level. KSAs 4 and 5 are to be used in accordance with their appropriateness for the specific assignment.
