The United States Mint's Recent Graduates Program affords developmental experiences in the Federal Government intended to promote possible careers in the civil service to individuals who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs. Successful applicants are placed in a dynamic, developmental program with the potential to lead to a civil service career in the Federal Government.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-09. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
Tests and evaluates programmable logic controls, sensors, vision systems, and robots in automated machinery
Operates and troubleshoots complex robotic equipment. Resolves procedural and recurring issues. Assists higher-graded technicians in resolving unusual problems.
Troubleshoots, redesigns, and performs modifications to systems. Assesses computer operations related to automation equipment programs.
Performs system design, programming, simulation and testing, and start-up of automation equipment.
Assists in the preparation of technical engineering specifications and statements of work covering technically complex, often state-of-the-art, technical engineering designs or engineering changes for contract bid solicitations.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
To be eligible for the Recent Graduates Program, applicants must have, within the previous 2 years*, completed all educational requirements for a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying institution; [or intended graduation is no more than 9 months from date of application. (However, you must graduate prior to being appointed to the position.)] if applicable. For more information on education requirements go to Treasury's Pathways Program.
*Veterans who, due to a military service obligation, were precluded from applying to a Recent Graduates Program during any portion of the 2 year eligibility period may have their eligibility period extended so that they receive the full 2 years of eligibility. The remaining 2-year eligibility period will begin upon his or her release or discharge from active duty. The veteran's eligibility period may not extend beyond 6 years from the date of completion of all requirements of an academic course of study.
To qualify for the GS-09 level, you must meet the following requirements:
A. Education: In the Recent Graduates Program you may qualify based solely on education as follows:You may qualify with education that includes two full years of graduate education or a master's degree in a related field such as engineering, physical science, technology, or mathematics.
OR
B. Experience: For the GS-09, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-08 level, or equivalent that is directly related to the position and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as:
-Experience with a variety of types of electronic equipment or mechanical systems; AND
-Experience operating and troubleshooting electronic equipment or mechanical systems; AND
-Experience testing and modifying systems to resolve issues.
OR
C. You may qualify with a combination of education and experience listed above in which the percentage of specialized experience and education totals to 100%. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 18 semester hours (27 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To receive any credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/year, and indicate the number of hours worked per week, on your resume. The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
To qualify for the GS-08 level, you must meet the following requirements:
