THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a ARTILLERY REPAIRER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1224000 and is part of the IL CSMS 2, National Guard.

Duties

As an ARTILLERY REPAIRER (TITLE 32), WG-6605-5/8/10, you will perform maintenance, repair, and inspections on the electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical components on armored vehicle turrets. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Perform maintenance on the electrical system of the turrets. Test and repair electrical test sets that are used to test the electrical systems of the tank turret. Follow schematic diagrams and relays to determine if there is malfunction in the test equipment. Replace Line Replaceable Units (LRUs). Work on ITVs. Work on howitzers. Service the gun by exercising the recoil system to check for leaks in the seals. Borescope the gun tube to check for wear. Make recoil adapter readings to determine that the adapter and collar are serviceable. Repair the stabilization control systems, circuit breakers, distribution boxes, cables, and wiring system, points and all other electrical components in the turret. Repair the hydraulic system, which provides the pressure to elevate and traverse the gun and rotate the turret. Repair all mechanical parts involved in turret traversing, such as the traversing gearbox including the clutch assembly, and turret races including cupola bearings.

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence, The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Enlisted - not to exceed Rank of E9 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training which demonstrates the ability to perform mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic system operations; experience demonstrating the ability to fit and adjust parts and assemblies. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-10 Level MUST possess at least 18 months experience or training demonstrating a broad knowledge in repairing, rebuilding, modifying and testing mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems and major components of artillery systems; experience in diagnosing malfunctions and determining needed repairs in artillery systems; experience demonstrating the ability to inspect artillery systems; experience which demonstrates the ability to develop test standards; and experience interpreting and applying drawings, schematics, blueprints, diagrams and specifications. WG-08 Level MUST possess at least 12 months experience or training in dismantling, cleaning and reassembling various artillery subassemblies; experience which has demonstrated the ability to diagnose malfunctions by recognizing worn or damaged parts by measurement, strength of springs or dimension of parts; experience using hand tools, a limited number of measuring instruments, and a variety of test equipment; and experience which demonstrated the ability to interpret and apply a variety of technical manuals and similar published materials. WG-05 Level MUST possess at least 6 months experience or training which demonstrates the ability to perform simple servicing and adjustments to armament equipment; experience which has demonstrated the ability to identify easy to locate troubles by sight, hearing or by use of simple gauges and indicators; experience which required the use of common hand tools; and experience which has demonstrated the ability to follow written instructions. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
