This position is in the Bureau of Medical Services in Washington, DC, promoting the health and welfare of the Department of State worldwide workforce; maintaining long-term health domestically and overseas for eligible family members, including care for employees from over 50 other federal agencies. Provides the full range of professional nursing services to Foreign Service, locally employed Department of State staff, and EFMs.
Duties
Evaluates medical clearance documentation to identify specific health needs and medical conditions that may require specialty management and follows up with treatment, monitoring, and/or specific documentation.
Provides counseling to patients regarding the clearance process and special clearance circumstances and up-to-date clearance information; review and maintains clearance records.
Ensures confidentiality of all medical record keeping in accordance with applicable statutes, regulations and guidelines governing the confidentiality of medical files.
Plans a wide range of medical clearance activities for Department employees, family members, contractors and individuals from other federal agencies that identify specific health needs and medical conditions requiring specialty management.

Applicants MUST meet the required basic entry qualification requirements described below:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Education:A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure:For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

IN ADDITION to meeting the basic requirements above, you MUST have at least 1 or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service that provided you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Examples of qualifying equivalent experience include:
Experience applying a wide range of nursing administration and case management theories and principles to provide sound technical advice and guidance.
Experience utilizing automated systems and ability to use electronic medical records for recording evaluating and retrieving medical data.
Experience providing sound technical nursing and advisory service, which includes researching, analyzing and evaluating the issues to resolve complex clearance issues.
Experience communicating orally and in writing to produce reports and other correspondence and to discuss sensitive health issues.
